Just wondering about the damage to the ends for those who wash or co-wash frequently. I notice that Sylver 2 and few others rarely comb their hair except on wash days, sylver washes every 2 weeks. I've been trimming my ends a lot lately and I use No heat what so ever, It's summer now my hair appreciates a second wash a week, but not sure my ends like it well :nono:.

I cowash almost daily because of tangles and knots. So I do comb every cowash to detangle but I only comb during the wash on conditioner-soaked hair. I just do it really gently and slowly.

Re: Frequent co-washers: Do u comb out after each wash? if so...does this damage u'r

I use my extra wide tooth Jilbere shower comb every time I Deep-co, which is every other day. About twice a week I go through my hair with the wide tooth Jilbere comb. All of this done while washing out my conditioner under the shower stream.

I experienced a setback some time ago by trying to only use the extra wide tooth comb all of the time. I can imagine what would happen if I were to attempt to use NO comb at all.

ETA: My Jilbere babies are seamless with rounded tips. They do not snag on my ends.

I use a wide tooth comb to detangle, then use a Denman brush after to either define my curls or put my hair in a ponytail.

Re: Frequent co-washers: Do u comb out after each wash? if so...does this damage u'r

I co wash usually every other day , sometimes everyday. Ill comb every other wash and if im washing everyday ill comb every on the 3rd wash. When i comb it takes me forever but i comb very carefully with a TON of conditioner in my hair. If not i will hear snapping all over. I comb with wide tooth comb and then follow that with the denman mostly to get the little knots i missed and to make sure all the loose/shed hairs are out.

If you're co washing more....have you been using doing any protein treatments at all?

I always detangle when I cowash. I finger detangle under running water while rinsing out conditioner and detangle with a wide tooth comb after applying my leave in.

My ends are fine.

Re: Frequent co-washers: Do u comb out after each wash? if so...does this damage u'r

I finger comb my hair daily when I cowash or rinse with water and I haven't experienced any damage. I only use my shower comb about twice a month but I've found I really don't need it because the finger combing works great for me so what little shed hairs I have are removed daily.

Re: Frequent co-washers: Do u comb out after each wash? if so...does this damage u'r

I don't comb with every co-wash because I keep my hair in twists. I have fine strands and I'm trying to retain as much as I can.:yep:

Re: Frequent co-washers: Do u comb out after each wash? if so...does this damage u'r

I've never lost progress and I wash and co-wash (not right now, as I just BCed) and detangled daily.

This is me too. I was beginning to think I was an oddball.

I wet my loose hair (when not in twists) everyday day in the shower and finger comb. I'll sometimes go 3 weeks max without detangling my hair.
When I do, it's always saturated in a good deep condtioner (Nacidit or Lustrasilk's Shea Cholesteral_

Re: Frequent co-washers: Do u comb out after each wash? if so...does this damage u'r

I don't comb with my daily co-washes. I just let it air dry, apply moisture and my spray bottle and do a braid out.

Re: Frequent co-washers: Do u comb out after each wash? if so...does this damage u'r

i dont really get tangles so i dont feel combing my hair will do any hurt, i do comb out every time i cowash. which is daily. i have yet to experience any negative effects.

Re: Frequent co-washers: Do u comb out after each wash? if so...does this damage u'r

yes, Yes, and YES!!! frequent cowashing MURDERED my ends. it *may* have been because i combed while in the shower... but i think it also may have been because my ends were weak in the first place: i hadn't had a trim (at that point) in over a year.

i have very fine strands (but a lot of them). i cowashed frequently for about 2 months straight in the end of 2008. i noticed that my new growth came in really soft and moisturized, but my ends were gradually breaking off (i'm relaxed). i had to get a cut in jan 09 of about 3 inches to even everything out.

if you've got fine hair, and you relax, please be very gentle with your hair when you're frequently cowash.

one big tip i learned was to pass the shower comb through your hair *VERY SLOWLY*. it'll reduce the stress on your hair as you pull the comb through, and will pull away the shed hair instead of ripping it away.

Re: Frequent co-washers: Do u comb out after each wash? if so...does this damage u'r

I detangle with a large tooth comb after every cowash. I tried cowashing for a week without detangling and my hair matted up in certain areas.

Re: Frequent co-washers: Do u comb out after each wash? if so...does this damage u'r

Yes I always find shed hairs, and if I dont remove them it collects at my ends and causes tangles.. If I dont its a disaster waiting to happen.

I wash twice a week and use protein most of he time...seems that the more I handle it I tend to get damage :yep: I haven't used heat but maybe once this year blow dried to get it braided. No pressing, no curling....NO HEAT Period. Yet my ends show signs of damage :nono: I'm thinking to trim more often even just a tiny bit will help...everytime I notice damage :yep:

All responses appreciated

Re: Frequent co-washers: Do u comb out after each wash? if so...does this damage u'r

I cowash in braids and then let it air dry before touching my hair(moisturizing, styling).

Re: Frequent co-washers: Do u comb out after each wash? if so...does this damage u'r

I co wash every day until it gets cold outside and while I am in the shower with the conditioner on my hair I use a wide tooth comb and comb my hair. I then put a towel on it and throw some shea butter on it and that's it. If I were to comb my hair after I would shower it would look like a fro. I HAVE to comb it while wet or it would be DISASTEROUS! My hair has not had any damage at all co washing and combing while wet every day.

Re: Frequent co-washers: Do u comb out after each wash? if so...does this damage u'r

I detangle each time I cowash, under the stream of water. I cowash anywhere from 3-5 times per week.

Re: Frequent co-washers: Do u comb out after each wash? if so...does this damage u'r

I do, without problems once my hair hits the 4" mark. I brush lightly (ONLY WITH THE GOODY JOJOBA BRUSH) at 2" without issue. I wash & co-wash daily. This is the second time I've BCed and before the first and after it I had no problems doing this with my bone-laxed and texlaxed hair as well.

Re: Frequent co-washers: Do u comb out after each wash? if so...does this damage u'r

I have to detangle every 3rd wash or else my hair will get really tangled. I comb only with conditioner in my hair and I try to do it while rinsing it gets more tangled since it's pretty short right now (3-4"). I use my wide tooth comb after finger combing the big knots out then when I DC which is 2-3x/wk I use my Denman to get the shed hairs and smaller knots out. I've had a little breakage but I expected it since my ends were weak at the line of demarcation when I BCd. Otherwise i love cowashing my hair is so manageable this way.

This would've been a nice poll... :yep::lick:

Re: Frequent co-washers: Do u comb out after each wash? if so...does this damage u'r

When I'm freshly relaxed up to about 7 to 8 weeks post I co-wash about 4 to 5x a week. After i co-wash I ALWAYS detangle once with a wide tooth comb only. I haven't used a brush in my hair in almost 2 years so I have no problems with over manipulation. When I'm over 8 weeks I only co-wash once a week and still detangle.

Decided to go back to braids for the duration of the summer!! Sweating, I may co-wash with them as well. I tangle pretty bad :wallbash: Welcome any tips :yep: Thanks in advance. Anna
