french twist/roll:anyone know where i can get dir.

i've decided to start doing protective styles due to the damage this wind is doing to my ends. although i like buns, i love the french twist or is it a french roll. does anyone know where i can find easy intructions on how to do that style; and does anyone know what you call the foam thingy you roll the hair over to make the twist look fuller?
