French Braid help needed

I would like to start wearing my hair in a single French Braid down the back of my head. However, I cannot make a decent one!
Can anyone give me any instructions for improvement?(I can't remember if I braid over or under)or point me to a website that offers & shows step by step pictures.

They have various braiding instructions and even a section on french braiding your own hair and other people's hair

I've seen the Scunci Easybraid at Walmart, Kmart, Target, etc.

I have that, and it's a pain to use. It's awkward and it doesn't produce a frenchbraid any faster or better than if you braided your hair with your own hands.
