For album newbies ( those thinking of starting one and aren't sure where to start like me), I was wondering what everyone likes to see done in the albums they view. And just for good measure, what to avoid. I know it's a personal thing but I like seeing regimens, product reviews, journals, the good, bad, and the ugly hair days.
Anyways, I think this might be a potentially good thread to pick up tips and encourage those who aren't sure how to start fotki's/ online albums to try it out. TIA!

I don't have one, but I like to see clear pictures.
There's no use in having a fotki to showcase your hair with a bunch of pictures that can't be made out.
I also like to see comparison shots. It's really encouraging!

Mostly I go to Fotki's now to see who has my hair type and what products they are using. Product reveiws are a big plus for me now. Additionally, I like to see Fotki's that are different. For example, someone using all natural homemade products. Stuff like that is interesting to me.

I dislike small poor quality cell phone pictures or pictures with a huge flash bling reflecting off of the mirror.

I always like to see a few shots of wet hair or wet roots to get an idea of the actual texture.

I like to know what product you applied to get the style you are showing.

And I hate the same exact shot repeated over and over again you don't need to show more than 2 shots of the back of your flat ironed hair in the same folder back to back. Show me the front, sides and top instead. I mean it's ok to show the back length shot from the beginning of the month and then the end of the month or the length straight and then in a braidout or wet and shrunken but not the 5 shots that you took 5 seconds apart that's wasting your fotki space too.

Also, I really like it when people type some sort of description or let me know what they think of their own hair in the photo.

I LIKE to see:
-Progression (growth, EL to BSL, transitioning, damaged to healthy, etc.)
-Organized and well-titled albums/folders (I like knowing what a particular album/folder is about)
-Descriptive captions for each photo (tell me what I'm looking at)
-Multitude of hair styles and/or growth shots (this is what I gravitate towards; I'm not too fond of product albums and journals)

STAY AWAY from:
-Fuzzy, blurry photos
-Tons of albums/folders about nothing - (exaggerated e.g., album 1 is my hair when I was wearing a blue t-shirt and album 2 is my hair on the SAME day when I was wearing a yellow t-shirt)

i almost spit out my coffee on that......lol:lachen:. its true though, it really is.:lachen:

Dang OP you are totally reading my mind...

I like:
  • organized albums (post the newest last. I hate scroolling down to the bottom of the page to see the start of your journey. Also, do Jan-Dec and not Dec-Jan)
  • different styles
  • comparison shots with dates (as someone mentioned)
Dislikes:
  • the same pic over and over
  • car shots
  • blurry/dark pics
  • wet hair shots

Clear pictures. I don't mind cell phone pics, but I don't like close-up pics that clearly show the floor behind you, but I can't tell anything about your head.

I dont look at most Fotkis on the regular but I love the ones that serve as tutorials and that are very informative. I'm terrible at styling so I need step by step not-"I washed my hair" in one pic "and this is it after it's been rollerset" in the other.............that's not helping me when I'm stuck with freshly washed hair.

I like people to EXPLAIN what they did. Yep, pics are nice, but I'm trying to learn. So I want to know, how you actually created a certain style. Or what technique you used to get a certain outcome being photographed.

I like to see....

-Comparison shots with dates
-Regimen
-Instructions for how you did a particular style to go along with the pics
-Products you used for a particular style to go along with the pics
-Mistakes to avoid: If you tried something and it DIDNT help to achieve that style you have posted...talk about it so it's something I'm aware of when I may try to duplicate what you did :yep:
-Tools and accessories
