What is the best way to shampoo your hair? I haven't had a relaxer in almost 6 months, my hair is in cornrows now but I don't know if it's better for the hair to wash it down or it doesn't matter if I wash it in braids. I prefer to wash it and condition it in braids b/c my new growth is too thick.

I'm sorry I can't answer your question b/c I'm not in cornrows. I hope someone who is can answer your question. I don't change the way I wash my hair but I definitely use more conditioner on the roots.

I detangle my hair before shampoos and wash my hair in sections. Then I detangle with my fingers and add conditioner. Then rinse the conditioner, detangle with fingers then detangle with wide tooth comb.

And I allways wash my hair in 2 sections.

This is what I do also. A Jilbere shower comb is really good for the tangles. I put gobs of conditioner on my ends and I tried not to comb thru my NG too much so that I would not cause too much damage.

I still wash my hair the same way, just more carefully. I think it's best to wash your hair after you take your cornrows out, and detangle completely after you take them out so that you won't get a lot of knots and tangles too!

But how do you keep from getting the hair tangled when you wash your scalp?

what works for me:
-wet your hair really good
- apply a detangling conditioner such as ddta or vo5, then comb through starting from ends to roots
- then shampoo with a moisturizing and detangling shampoo like con or elasta creme shampoo
- then deep condition or conditioner

with this method, my roots don't tangle when i shampoo them.

Ditto to this.

I'm over 14 months post relaxer and I wash my hair in braided sections. Take the cornrows out; then spray some pantene light conditioning spray on each section then gently comb it out but keep your hair in sections while combing it out. Then individual-braid your hair in like 10 braids or so (not small but medium or big) and wash it that way. Then when you get done washing/conditioning, take each braid out and gently comb each section of the braid. Your comb-out will be so easy(as long as you use a conditioner that works well for your hair) I do not use wide-tooth combs because they cause more tangles for me down the line (they run through my hair beautifully but they don't hit every tangle so then after a while I end up with a big clump of hair all tangled up), but I use moderately-spaced toothed combs and fine-tooth combs and have not had problems with tangles. The most important thing is to be very patient and make sure you have a big block of time. The more patience and time you have, the less problems you will have with washing your hair after braids.

When I shampoo, I do it in the shower and focus on my scalp. Then I deep condition under the dryer for at least 20 min. When I rinse, I do that in the shower too, and I comb through my hair under the running water with a k-cutter comb. It takes ~5 min.
