!!! I am dying. I got my first weave on Sunday. And since Monday night maybe Tuesday morning my scalp has itching like crazy. I'm having a hard time sleeping. I have to take tylenol and leave the windows wide open just to get any sleep. And it's causing me to feel itchy all over. Pretty much every night this week, I've just wanted to rip the hair out it's been so bad.

I know that the cornrows are supposed to itch for a couple days, but does this sound right to you? Is it possible to have an allergic reaction to the hair? I have Capelli hair.

Any help is much appreciated because I am at my wits end. I hate to think I spent so much money to get it done, but this might just have to be one of those hard lessons.

i have heard of some people having allegic reactions to hair weave.

mine doesnt usually itch as much to where i cant sleep and have to take meds. But what i usually do when it gets to that point where it is itching is get a pointy bottle with something like infusium/scurl(i have other liquidy mixtures) and that usually relieves my scalp from itching.

Wow this is scary because i didnt like my hair that i have which is Saga because it tangles really easy and was thinking of switching hair...

its just your scalps reaction to 'foreign' hair on your head.

I made a scalp spray in a 2oz spray bottle (a base of witch hazel and I added a drop or 2 of listerine) to combat the itchies...and also I shampooed my hair to put my scalp itchies to rest. Hope that helps!

oh and also a dab of peppermint oil (in a carrier oil)on the scalp was relief too.

I have had this happen before and I did a rinse with some applecider vinegar over my scalp and it did the trick. Some hair some with a irritating chemical on it and vinegar gets rid of it. After I poured that over my scalp I rinsed my scalp and weave for 10 mins and applied jojoba oil to my scalp.

Another thing is your conrows might be way too thight. Don't itch/hit to much or you will cause your hair to pulled out of your scalp.

I hope this helps.

My scalp always itches like crazy when I have a sew-in. Peppermint oil helps tremendously! Seabreeze and Witch hazel both help with itching but, be careful because they could dry your hair out. Try adding peppermint oil to a braid spray. The braid spray that I use has sulfur in it also so that help with the itching too.

Also over the years I found that the quality of hair had a lot to do with how itchy the scalp is. It could be how the hair is treated, but also some wefts have short prickly hairs on one side which is called the beard. The cheaper brands have really hard feeling jagged edged beards that cause your scalp to itch like a b*$#%!

As soon as I started using high quality hair my scalp NEVER itched. What I recommend is Wagman Primus - http://www.wagmanhair.com/ - their hair is really great and it isnt too expensive given the quality that you're getting. You may have to call to order the hair via phone and it comes in like 2 days. I used their hair a lot and it's great, I have pics in my fotki. People thought my weave was my hair. I also love and recommend Extensions Plus - www.extensionsplus.com - I heard that Gabrielle Union and a couple of others use their hair. And then there's the holy grail of hair sites Nature Girl - www.NatureGirl.com. One thing to remember about this kind of hair is that even though it's more of an expense that BSS hair, it's amazing quality and you can use them for MORE THAN ONE INSTALL! I've had hair from all of these companies that I've used for 3-4 installs (that for me was about 6-8 months of wear). I wore weaves all the time at one point. If you must use BSS hair go for the following brands: Bohyme, Outre Velvet Remy, or Sensational Goddess Remy. These are higher quality BSS brands that yes do cost more, but look a lot more natural, dont shed like a dog in the summer, and dont cause itchy iritable scalp!

If you want to find out the low down on weaves head over to BHM's weaves/extensions board, those girls KNOW THEIR STUFF. That's where I learned the most about weaves, how to rock em, care for them, and preserve my hair underneath. My hair has NEVER been damaged from weaving.

It usually does itch the first few days. There's a braid spray you can get. African Royale BRX Spray. That always worked for me.

I've had this happen before. If the stylist used braid hair to braid your cornrows, it's probably irritating your scalp. Or it could be the weave hair. It's the chemicals on the hair. Once you wash your scalp you'll be fine. Also try African Royale Braid Spray it has tee tree in it.

This happened to me, too...I got my first weave about 4 weeks ago (although I shouldn't have....but that's another story)...My scalp was on FIRE for like a week!!! The top of my hair has broken off so badly that it no longer covers my tracks anymore (I had short hair to begin with)!!! I am taking it out tomorrow and I CAN'T WAIT!!! PLEASE PRAY that I won't be completely bald!!! But I will say NO MORE WEAVES for me!!! Me No Likey! :nono:

The itchies only happened when the chic used a net, the net drove me crazy. I agree about the type of hair will cause the itches...the cheaper the worse. Sorry, I hope you find relief...BTW...have you tried washing it to rinse the chemicals out?

ABSOLUTELY!!!
what you do is soak the hair in water and apple cider vinegar before putting it in your hair. ( i do it for an hour, but it could be shorter)the vinegar breaks down the alkaline base on the hair. Some folks have an allergic reaction on there scalp with this base. as for me I will break out on my skin if i don't soak the synthetic hair with the apple cider vinegar. This is just a step that i KNOW that i have to do before EVER putting in a weave...or braids. no itchys ever after learning this.

With braids, I will have them done or do them myself and then soak my head in water and apple cider vinegar for as long as I can stand my head being down in the bucket.

Thanks you guys. I have no idea that their were chemicals on the hair. I will be washing it out tonight and putting some oil on my scalp.

Yeap kbfluff,
 I have been doing this after seeing it on the GroAfroHairlong.com website. I soak my braid or weave hair for 30/40 mins and let it dry before I put it in. I add about a cup of vinegar to a small sink of water and watch the akaline residue come off. :yep:

:nono:One time I didn't do this and I regreted it bad. But I diluted some vinegar pour over my scalp and hair, soaked and scrubed real good and rinsed multiple times. Then oiled my scalp only and that solved my pain. Unfortunately one time a woman did my weave way too tight at the crown of my head and I got a small amount of hair loss as a result. :wallbash: (I loss hair were it itched the worsed) It's not very noticeable but my husband and I can tell it has thinned. So I never get very tight cornrows anymore.
