For those of you who say you have no curl pattern,

does your hair not curl up (s) or kink up (z) even in the shower. My hair is 4b/4a and it curls/kinks up as soon as water hits it. But literally as soon as I put it in a bun or manipulate it, no more curl.

My cousin has absolutely no curl pattern. His hair is like cotton candy and is extremely fragile. I tried co-washing his hair and moisturizing it to see if a pattern would develop, but nothing. He wanted his hair to have more of a curl pattern, so my grandmother bought him a blow out kit and I applied it to his hair (even though I didn't approve of this decision. I only kept the kit on his hair for 2 minutes, I promise you, and his hair got bone straight . He was embarrassed and we ended up cutting the straight hair off. He's extremely tenderheaded and it's so hard trying to keep his hair groomed and moisturized. He probably needs thick and heavy moisturizers. I have fine strands, but I have a lot of hair on my head, and my hair responds to light weight moisturizers so I was trying to do for his hair what works for my hair, but it didn't work. So if there's anyone on this site with a hair texture like this, please tell me what you do to keep your hair moisturized and healthy.

I am not sure why people
put so much emphasis on trying to
get a curl pattern. To me its there or not..:ohwell:
I rather have thick and healthy hair
minus curls, IMO.

Mine does something while wet, but it's not Z's or S's or anything uniform. It bends, forms O's, forms Z's, forms S's, forms C's, some sections are just frizzball/cotton candy, some of it is just crinkled up some kind of way that I can't adequately describe. No curl pattern. No "pattern" at all! That's a big part of what makes it such a challenge. Especially the darn O's.

For the most part, the Z's and S's disappear as soon as it dries, even if I just straight wash-n-go.

That makes sense. I guess I was under the misconception that everyone has to have some sort of curl pattern (except for 1a hair) but I guess there are people on the opposite spectrum as well. Sadly I think this hair type gets overlooked. My cousin's hair doesn't make progress in growth because he's not caring for his hair's needs. It stays pretty much the same length which probably means that it's breaking or grows slowly, IDK.

Do you not have a curl pattern? I don't really care that much either, but I find our hair fascinating. I've been on this board for a long time, but I didn't realize until only a little while ago that not everyone had a curl pattern. I assumed that everyone had some kind of pattern (most people do) and it is lost easily through manipulation or it condenses so much that you can't tell. I think I spend too much time in the other sections.

When my hair was shorter, I had one patch of curls at my nape when wet only. As it has grown the patch has disappeared & now I have absolutely zero curl or pattern of any sort.

That's why I don't shingle, wash and go or texturize. My hair in the front of my head doesn't curl it lies straight. If I would texturize the front it would be like I put a relaxer on it. I think it's a few of us on this site who have hair like this.

One of my friends have a daughter with this hair type. The mother asked me to detangle it for her, because she hadn't done that in over 1 month :wallbash: Needless to say, it took me 3 hours to detangle half the head and then I had to go.

Her hair is baby soft, the softest hair I've ever felt - like down - and no curl pattern whatsoever, very super mini curly/zig-zaggy. It would be amazing if her mother took some time to care for it. It also has a beautiful, sandy brown color with blonde streaks.

I think it's so interesting that some of us have hair that curl up when wet and some of us have hair that gets longer/hangs down when wet...

My niece has a big cloud of cotton like hair. There is no curl pattern whatsoever even when its wet. She is 4 and her mother wants to give her a relaxer. :ohwell:

My hair has NO CURL PATTERN when wet.

The only way i get a pattern is when my hair is saturated with certain conditioners.

Hence why i only reference my hair as 4b.

The only curls I see are the ones I put in my head via tools or at the end of my braids or twists other than that nada, nothing, no way, no how, no curl.

I am a cotton head and have learned to accept it for what it is.

My cottony mass of wonderfulness! :)

my daughter and I are cotton head too! the only difference is mine is hard and kinda dry, lots of shrinkage and tangles easily, while hers is like a soft cloud

I dont have much of a curl pattern either... :ohwell:

My hair is mostly cottony throughout, waves a bit in the front and is really coarse at the crown. I have a weird patch of hair in the back that curls up very loosely, but thats a birth mark.

I dont think wasnh n go's would ever work for me, natural or relaxed.

Sounds all too familiar... My hair is relaxed and i have never worn it BC length so im not sure how to help. Has he tried the wash, oil/grease, brush and du-rag method?

I have no idea what my hair type is because I have a weak curl pattern.
mainly its my edges...I know my middle and front have a pattern thats more 3c/4a...but my edges are a mystery...they have very small 's' curls but they are not all clumped together, they separate and fro out very easily

But I am also assuming the reason I have a hard time finding a curl pattern is because I straighten my hair A LOT so it has lost some of its elasticity. I have no perm, but half the length of my hair is straight.

We've tried a lot of different things. Wave brushes, doo-rags, so-sof-fro--still his hair gets matted very easily and he's super tender-headed. The comb will barely touch his head before he starts crying (and he's 12 years old) Maybe his hair would respond better to oils rather than conditioner. We've already tried conditioner, and his hair just sucks it up and it's back dry again. I've seen the hair of people who claim 4b, and it's nothing like his hair. Maybe his hair is what they call 4c?

I have no curl pattern whatsoever - i've been natural 2 times in the past 5 years. My hair looks like cotton candy as a natural and is very dull. I would put Elasta "glaze" on it for shine and to lay it down for a puff but it was still dry. That was pre LHCF. I am relaxed now and i have fine hair sandy brown in color. I have to do a light protein and DC overnight every week. I can't comb when wet. My hair will break. It's very fragile. I use mango butter for moisture and seal with coconut oil. I also henna once a month relaxer for 5 minutes and i'm bone straight. My hair is exasperating.

My hair is very curly when wet but once I touch it it frizzes up and there goes the curl.

My hair is very strange, The crown and front of my hair have no pattern at all. It is basically frizzy straight hair. The left side of my hair has a curl pattern but it is extremely tight. The right side of my hair has a looser 3 something curl pattern.

This is why I would never texturize my hair, who knows what would happen. If I ever texlax, it will be to mainly wear it straight.

OMG, I'VE FOUND MY HOME!

The back of my hair, the edges and the sides have something like a wavy curl pattern, but the bulk of it, especially at the crown has NO CURL PATTERN. When I was getting relaxers, I never needed to relax the crown because it straightens so easily (I always did bc i didn't know you could just relax parts of your hair). Wash -n- go's even sans the 2" of relaxer left look unpresentable.

Shan, you described my hair to a "T". :)

I'm not fully natural *transitioning*, but what from
I see the only "coils/curls" I do have
are the ones at my nape. But, for the most part
I
happily claim 4b . I'm positive
you can have gorgeous hair with out
having a definite curl pattern.

:yep:

Me too. I thought it was possibly heat damage, but no. Because it's not straight; it's light and airy with no curls or wave. Just clouds.:lachen:

The back of my hair has tight coils. It's funny how one head can have multiple textures.
