For those of you who have Self Relaxed and came out over/under processed, what do you

think was your mistake??
Was it applying it generously enough, leaving it on too long or not enough, overlapping, not protecting the previously relaxed parts??
What do you think it was??
I'm trying to prep to do a relaxer where my roots are straight but the length is underprocessed. I am trying to get even texture throughtout the strand.
I hope this makes sense...

Re: For those of you who have Self Relaxed and came out over/under processed, what do

I've underprocessed and I know it was due to my error. The following reasons are why I've underprocessed:

-Didn't leave relaxer on long enough on a particular section
-Didn't use enough relaxer

To ensure a smooth application and that my hair is evenly processed, I time everything. I relax using the half half method(relax back first, neutralize, relax front, neutralize). With each half I make two sections. If my application/processing time is 15min, I apply relaxer to the first section and that should take 2 min-3min. That tells me that when I go to rinse the relaxer, I should rinse only the first section for 2-3min ensuring that the second part gets the full 15 mins just like the first part did. And then proceed to rinse the second section. I hope that makes sense.

ETA: This takes alot of practice. My last relaxer application was the best that I've ever done. My only error was that I didn't apply enough relaxer to my a small portion of my crown. So there is small section with loose curls/waves that I'll correct the next time I relax. I suggest that you practice with a conditioner and a timer to really get it down. HTH!

Are you trying to do a corrective relaxer as well?

I tend to underprocess myself when I self relax. My mistakes are not using enough relaxer, using too much conditioner and base on my hair before hand and not watching my time.

I underprocessed my relaxer yesterday, but it was no fault of mine, the damn relaxer was over a year old!!! I'll do a corrective Friday.

I did my first self relaxer in June and let's just say there is mos def room for improvement. I too underprocessed. I didn't use enough relaxer and I didn't leave it on long enough so my new growth ended up like a 3C lol. I will correct it w my next retouch next month. I knew I wouldn't be perfect at it right away. LOL. But I learned what to do better the next time.

Yes I am. My roots are straight but the length is still texlaxed. I think this is due to my last relaxer where I was trying to do a corrective but I still put oil on it because I was scared I was going to overprocess. Now the length is the exact same texture but my new growth straight. The straight part is only about an inch long and I was planning to coat this part while I do the corrective.
Do you have any suggestions??
(I was planning to use the half and half method also and practice with conditioner. I will also wait two months to try to do the corrective on only the underprocessed parts.)

Sorry, I misread your post. I just noticed you said you had straight roots and underprocessed ends. I thought you were prepping for a touch up and a corrective. Anyhow, check out the following thread. I found it extremely helpful in doing my corrective especially where timing is concerned. HTH!

ETA:The type of corrective you're doing isn't something I personally would do. I personally would go to professional to do that type of corrective. Nonetheless, as long as your timing is right, you should be fine. If it was just small sections then I would definitely do it myself. Whatever you decide to do, good luck!
