Are you guys buying the whole carrots unpeeled or the peeled baby carrots, I bought the peeled baby carrots for convenience, I assume that the unpeeled carrots would be more nutritious though, is it really that much difference?? THANKS!!

I use whole carrots unpeeled. From what I read, most of the nutrition is right at the surface of the carrots so I don't ever peel mine, just wash them really well. I also found the whole carrots to be easier to juice, I mostly use 'green giant', but so far 'bunny luv' are the sweetest...but I only get those from the local health food store. :ohwell:

I take 1tsp. of organic carrot powder mixed in water. It makes it much more easier and it has the same nutrients as the real ones.

Do freshly juiced carrots go bad after so long? One time I juiced a whole bag of large carrots and put the juice in a half gallon plastic juice container in the fridge and finished it off in about a week or so. Just want to be sure I'm being careful.

I use whole carrots, but had been peeling mine. I didn't know about the nutrients close to the surface so I'll just start washing them really well.

I also do this with mine, but I only make two or three days worth at a time.

I read in a couple of juice books that as soon as the juice is exposed to oxygen then it starts loosing it's nutritional value as w/juicing the fiberous cell wall is broken down. If I remember correctly juice stored in closed in containers w/low surface area of oxygen to juice ratio should be drank by the 3rd day.

When I juice large amounts is put the juice in canning jars filled to the top and freeze.

ETA: I also read that if you dont buy organic carrots, it's best to peel them- supposedly, the skin is where the majority of the pesticedes are.

Fancypants,
Where did you purchase carrot powder? I would be interested in that.

The brand I use is called Carrot Essence. You can look around in your health food stores, but I purchased mine from http://www.Swansonvitamins.com for $11.89. If you go to their website and search for Carrot Essence, it will give detail info about the product. The instructions say to take 3 tsp. a day, but I only take 1 tsp.

Thanks for the response guys :) I guess my next batch of carrots will be the whole unpeeled ones. I didn't know they made carrot powder, the fresh juice is delicious though I think I'll stick with that.

I've been buying the whole unpeeled carrots. I don't peel the skin but i sort of shave it, simply because i know pesticides are used and most of the nutrients are in the skin.
I would love to eventually buy organic carrots - just not yet.

About a kilo of carrots gives me enough for 3 days, i prefer it that way just so that im drinking fresh juice.

Does the powder taste good - or rather can you tell the difference? I am used to the way my mom makes it (with milk, condensed milk, sometimes with rum and sometimes with beets) so even the store bought doesn't taste that good to me. But I would be interested in the powder for times when I am on the run.

Are y'all juicing your carrots with other things like fruits? I've been doing carrots, apples and oranges and it tastes really good.

I was very surprised by the taste of the carrot juice from powder. I mix it in hot water, let it dissolve and then add 6oz of water and it tastes very good. You know, carrots have a sweetness to them, and this tastes very good. I just started mixing my carrot juice with my brewers yeast in the morning but the carrot juice by itself is very good.

I started with carrots, apples and ginger.

I've juiced with cucumber and celery, these are ok but I really like the addition of spinach. I love the taste!
