For Relaxed 4a/b

Castor oil for sure helps soften but I personally still get breakage. The only thing that helps me is a touch-up. I have to choose between stretching out my touch-ups and dealing with hair on the bathroom floor or relaxing at 6 weeks and keeping more hair on my head. I'm still in the process of making up my mind. Just got my touch-up today so no breakage at all. You have to sort that out for yourself.

I'm transitioning so after I wash my hair, I oil my new growth with healthy hair butter or ors carrot oil (probably anything would work). To me, this seems to make it less curly and blends in a little better with the relaxed hair and hopefully preventing breakage. I think moisture is the key.

I use ORS hair lotion or a shea butter pomade mixture on my wet hair after I wash and condition it. I carefully and slowly comb my hair with a wide tooth shower comb also. I think this helps minimize my breakage.

I think its normal to get a small amount of breakage from time to time.

I like using S-curl when I dry my hair...and the leave-in by Aphogee. Sometimes I also use Coconut oil... they do a good job. I have seen a lot less breakage lately because of it... that and I try to stay away from using my fine toothed comb close to touch-up time.

Right now I am LOVING Elasta QP products. I would have never bought their products had I not found this board
(thanks ladies). It keeps my hair so soft, shiny and manageable.

Also I use Profectiv ends , it comes in the pink jar. I tie my hair up at night after I put that on my ends and my hair is really soft and manageable.

For me the key to make it through the next touch up is protective styles because my hair seems to dry out a lot if I wear it down near that touch up time. Also since I have been taking better care of my hair ( washing, conditioning, no heat , exercising, vitamins, water etc...) the whole texture of my hair has changed. It doesnt get totally out of control like it used to .

Now I still gotta get that shower filter and hooded dryer....

Oh I use some of everything! Here's my list lol!:

ORS Carrot Oil
Wild Growth Oil
Leisure Curl Scalp And Conditioning Spray
KeraCare Leave-In Conditioner
QP Elasta Recovery cream moisturizer. This is also a leave in I just started using and I like it just as much (probably more so)as I like the KeraCare leave-in.

btw...I don't use all of those at once. Just one or the other depending on how much new growth I have and how I'm wearing my hair. For instance I'll use the carrot oil during the first few weeks because it's light, then switch to one of the heavier ones as I get more new growth. The spray moisturizer I only use when I'm wearing my protective styles because it weighs the hair down.

All of these things make my new growth very soft (especially the leave in conditioners) and stop breakage.

WGO every few days before tying my hair down at night. Also, when doing a rollerset, pure unrefined coconut oil on the new growth helps to straightenit somewhat with the help of heat from the hooded dryer.

thanks ladies so much 4 the info. i see that i'll be needing sum ORS carrot oil. i just air dried today and i used that ORS olive oil on my new growth. thanks ladies!
