How are you growing your hair so long? Are you growing your hair natural or with a relaxer? Do you blow dry or air dry?

My hair is natural and I air dry.

I have a very simple routine...wash, condition, finger comb, rinse, air dry. That's all :)

No complicated hair styles, no heat, no relaxers, no combs, no brushes, no harsh hair accessories...

Good luck on your journey! I know there are people with waist length hair on here that both relax and use heat, but my hair would never be able to withstand those type of things. We all have to find what works for our own hair :)

My routine is similar to Flowerhair's routine. I'm natural, and I air dry. I wash and condition my hair in sections. I comb out each section carefully and then I twist my hair and let it air dry. Then I wear my hair in a twistout. This style will last me about a week, and then I wash my hair and start over.

I use almost no heat whatsoever. I don't have a complicated regime. I don't do buns or wear my hair up.

What caused my hair to stay one length for years and years was overusing heat. Once I stopped using my hotcurlers daily, I began to retain length.

But like Flowerhair said, different things work for different people. You just have to figure out what you might be doing that is causing your hair not to retain length.

First, I must say FlowerHair and Nay are two of my hair idols. :notworthy

I am relaxed (texlaxed) and I started out this LHCF journey eliminating all heat. That's when I saw my hair start to return to health as well as retain the most length--for the first time in my adult life.

For my hair, relaxers and heat do not go together. :nono: Indirect heat, like sitting under a dryer may work but I learned how to air dry instead for the same or even better results. :)

I comb only on wet hair on wash days. I wash and deep condition 2 x per week, airdrying in a rollerset for smoother hair.

Sorry for being so long with response,

I am relaxed and I have been successful like the other long hairs due to using a regimen that does not use direct heat. I always air dry my hair. I have learned the delicate balance as to when my hair needs protein and moisture. I have found various ways to keep my hair up ( protected) from the drying elements that could cause drying and split ends while still having style, but require low manipulation. I shampoo every 4 days detangle under the running water of the shower. I just recently let my stylst use the flat iron to " finish" my hair after my most recent relaxer since I had a need trim and added some bangs.
I usually leave the salon with a wet head.

I enjoy scalp massages nightly.

im relaxed. i never comb my hair except while wet on wash days which is every 2 weeks.
i wear braidouts 70% of the time. wash, braid while wet. sit undr dryer for 30 mins. in summer let braids airdry.
when straight which may b every other month, i blow dry, flat iron, keep moisturized. no combing, no manipulation.
stretch relaxers-touchup 2-3 times a year. satin scarf + ntm silk touch keeps new growth lookin flat, smooth.
i don't wear protective styles

I am relaxed. I don't air dry. Can't stand walking around with a wet head. Didn't want a winter cold. I got very little results with protective styling. The bun began to make the sides of my head ache.

If I could apply these methods I would probably have faster results. Protectve styling and air drying are excellent practices but in my case, I might be able to gain some length with these procedures but I might gradually loose the progress when I start to wear my hair down because it won't have the strength it needs to maintain the length.

In my case strength=length

I am a conditioning addict.:yep:

I use a texturizer which I stretch - my last stretch was about 8 months long, something I've never done before, normally I'll stretch about 3 to 4 months. Protective styles, air drying, finger combing and moisturizing conditioners have really helped a lot. I find that for me protecting my ends is a must, none of the other hair techniques for growing hair faster have helped me - i pretty much get 1/2" per month, but the trick is protecting my ends so I don't have to trim much - that's how I see the continued progress.

I'm transitioning.

I wash twice a week and I do use heat. However I use it on a low setting. My hair would still be long if I used it on a high setting but it won't be as healthy as it is now. I roller set or blow dry and flat iron.

In the warmer months I wear mostly wash n' gos braid outs and twist outs so I'm not using much heat then. I allow my hair to air dry when I'm wearing it curly. I wear it down everyday. I'm just not a protective style kinda girl.

LOL...
I deep condition once a week or as needed. (ORS)
I oil my ends and do nightly massages. (Bhringraj oil/ hair butters)
I sleep in a bonnet/scarf or what ever I find in the hair dresser drawer.

Like the rest of the ladies, I do not comb except when it is wet with conditioners. I started out above bsl and now I am about hip in the back (stretched). I stretched out my relaxers a great deal and went without for one year. I wash, condition, and detangle once weekly and dry in two buns, sometimes with rollers. I use do grow oil on the scalp at wash times and usually do hot oil treatments.
Now that I am trying to look more professional at work, I roll my hair in a ponytail at night and wear it out during the day. It has tremendous body.

I use CON poo, CON or Nexxus Humectress condish, cholesterol deep condish, and shea butter detangling lotion to detangle.

I also take Biotin daily :)

Sweetcashew, you are my hair idol!!! Can't wait for my product stash to get a bit smaller so I can start ordering your products!!

Hey Ladies with long hair, how often do you deep condition? What do you do to your hair before bed?

I'm (only slightly) ashamed to say that I never deep condition anymore.
I found a way to keep my hair moisturized 24/7 so it really doesn't need it anymore.

Before bed I loosely twist my hair and fasten the twist with a hair comb. That way it's soft enough to sleep on and still looks great in the morning when I take it down.

I'm amazed to see that most of us don't wear protective styles!
I wear a ponytail 99% of the time...boring I know!

I love my pony tail too, but I have to twist mine up off of my back most of the time. I wish I was one that could go with out protecting some kinda way. I find that when my hair is completely down that it is sooo prone to splits rubbing on the back of my office chair and in the car...etc.

I am so envious of you long hairs that can wear your hair out most of the time with no issues.

I guess I'm a weekend girl. Only when I go out can I get away with this and not get punished by the evil splits.

I am taking notes from you others. I can always add tweak the regimen.:yep:

You women are a hair inspiration to me. All of you have such beautiful heads of hair!!!!:yep: I hope my hair grows up (or should I say down...) to look like y'alls.

great thread ....

I'm near WSL [transitioning](with a few strands already there ...). I deep condition every time I wash. At night I sleep on my satin pillow cases and 85%+ of the time I use a satin cap too. I either twist my hair and pin it up with a good day hair pin or I make 1-4 braids, depending on how I intend to wear it the next day.

ETA: I airdry in ponytail rollersets. Occassionally I will airdry in just 2-4 ponytails without the rollers.

FH, do tell...how u keep ur hair moisturised24/7????

Hey Ladies with long hair, how often do you deep condition? What do you do to your hair before bed?

I don't DC as much as i use to. Probably only about 5 times a year now. When I did DC it was overnight deep conditions.
I keep hair moisturized by using ntm silk touch everyday as my daily moisturizer.
Before bed I rub ntm silk touch thru hair. Tie satin scarf on head with hair hanging out the back. flip back part up and put on satin bonnet.

I rollerset weekly and either wrap or pincurl nightly. Getting rid of the blowdryer helped solve a lot of my problems. Now I just use it to blow out my roots sometimes.
