I thought it would be a good idea to start a thread on books that you read of heard of that can deepen our faith and our walk.

Conversion:
Rome Sweet Home (Scott Hahn)
No Price too High (Deacon Alex Jones)

Marriage and Sexuality:
Love & Responsibility (Karol Wojtyla)
Three to Get Married (Venerable Fulton Sheen)
Theology of the Body (Pope John Paul II)
Theology of the Body for Beginners (Christopher West)

Marian:
Hail Holy Queen (Scott Hahn)

Spirituality:
Introduction to the Devout Life (St. Francis de Sales)
Dark Night of the Soul (St. John of the Cross)
Ascent of Mount Carmel (St. John of the Cross)
The Interior Castle (St. Teresa of Avila)
The Way of Perfection (St. Teresa of Avila)
Story of a Soul (St. Therese de Lisieux)
Consoling the Heart of Jesus (Father Gaitley)
The Way (St. Josemaria Escrivia)

I'd also love a good study on the Gospels. I'd like to do this before I tackle some of the spirituality readings so please let me know if anyone has suggestions!

I've read and loved the following:

Scott Hahn's, Rome Sweet Home and Hail Holy Queen

St. Teresa of Avila's, The Way of Perfection

Pope Benedict XVI's, Intro to Christianity, Jesus of Nazareth Vol. 1 and 2 and I am currently reading Jesus of Nazareth: The Infancy Narratives (using this as an accompaniment book for my bible class).

I'll add some things:

(on my must read list)
The dialogue, Catherine of Siena
I want to see God, Father Marie-Eugène of the child Jesus
Covenant & communion, Scott Hahn
Life of St Teresa of Jesus, by herself (St Teresa of Avila)

(those I read and loved)
Signs of life, Scott Hahn
Reasons to believe, Scott Hahn
Catholicism for dummies, John Trigilio Jr. and Kenneth Brighenti

(must have)
Catechism of the catholic church

I hesitated to list any yet...but what I would recommend for anyone and everyone is John Paul II's, Theology of the Body
(it's even online http://www.ewtn.com/library/papaldoc/jp2tbind.htm)

Screwtape Letters, by C.S. Lewis (even though he wasn't catholic)

St. John of the Cross :

Ascent of Mount Carmel

Dark Night of the Soul

and A Spiritual Canticle of the Soul and the Bridegroom Christ

St. Faustina's Diary

St. Louis de Montfort's Secret of the Rosary

======

Of course, I own these and have been LAZY to either re-read or get past the initial skim.:nono: And it's a shame because one of the church's I frequented in my original hometown had a wonderful library right in the sanctuary! Near the confessionals, they had books you could purchase that were wonderful!

I have my eye on a couple books by Edith Stein.

I'm also reading Abandonment to Divine Providence by Fr. Caussade very slowly. It's a good read.

A must-read book by Fr. Elias Friedman, OCD.
This is the complete text of a must - read book for all Catholics entitled "Jewish identity," by Fr. Elias Friedman, OCD. Essentially, it deals with the idea that the Jewish identity was "phased out" as the Gentile presence became more important in the Church, and helps Hebrew Catholics find their place in the Church, which in turn helps the world more clearly understand the mission of the Church, and helps to reconcile painful histories between Jews and Christians.
