For blacks, hair to die for

I think it's a choice.

I am 5'2 and 125 lbs. I count calories (so it's not a white thing). I shop for fresh fruits and veggies. No, I don't embrace the overweight lifestyle at all.

It's not a black thing. It's a personal thing. Too many excuses! If one can get up and dressed to go to the mall, a 50 cent concert, or to the salon, one can get up and get dressed to travel to a fruit and veggie stand.

Seriously, have we become a race of excuses and no accountability? Sorry for the mini rant; but, I am so done with articles like this one.

What do we endure when it comes to the corporate world? Having been natural - and been in corporate - for most of my adult working life, it's always, always, always the other black people in corp. America who have the biggest issues with me & my hair. The white folks don't care.

I really believe that is a false fear perpetuated and sustained by black people - not by corporate America. :nono:

I've had no issue with my natural hair in white corporate America. Now I work for an HBCU and oh the comments:

-When are you going to comb your hair?

-If you go work with the President, she won't allow you to wear your hair that way

-Oh wow, I expected your hair to be rough

-Only you can wear that ugly pretty hair style

so on and so forth.

Thanks...we are on the free dining plan so this should be fun. I have been before but DH has never been. So we will be to kids in the kingdom!

I just came back from Disney World on Wednesday! Make sure you do your research on the dining plan, what you can use it on, what you can't, what's considered a snack etc. Once we figured it all out it was great! I wouldn't go to Disney without it!

I don't understand what the 77% overweight thing has to do with hair. :perplexed

I agree, completely. I ran everyday in the military and spent two hours working out every morning WITH a relaxer. I managed. Having a relaxer didn't mean that we couldn't work out. It's doable. :)

Exactly! I texlax my hair every 3-5 months because I like a more natural look w/o the hassle of tangles and knots. However, I exercise every day without a problem because I break up my workouts. In the morning I burn as many calories as I can (before breaking a major sweat) on my elliptical and/or treadmill with a fan blowing directly at me. Then I repeat the process after work and sometimes before bed. This way I get in my full daily exercise and still keep the appearance of my hair looking good.

ITA with all of these. Where there's a will, there's a way. I exercise and I'm relaxed. If health is important to someone they will exercise and eat right no matter what their hairstyle.
