I actually think that for a man who has seen you with your hair down (that you're not already involved with)like say a co-worker--the bun is a sexy thing. They know that you have all this hair up there and they're probably fantasizing about taking it down

I definitely agree...One of my favorite stories "A Walk to Remember", the main male character talks about how the female character always wears a bun and how he loves it when she takes it down. It's like a treat. I think it's so sexy! Plus, it's mystery and men love that.

Ha! who cares what these men think! I'm growing my hair, lol. wear the bun now so that you can have the long hair later... they WILL APPRECIATE THE RESULTS. (i know the bun is boring, but honestly i would rather longer hair in the future than for some guy to be entertained by my hair )

[/ QUOTE ]

EXACTLY, islandgirl! they do appreciate the results. and i love the reaction i get from people who've never seen my hair down when they finally do, especially men.

i guess it doesn't really bother me after all the praying that i did to get my hair long enough to put in a bun. that was such a milestone for me because i was never able to wear one. i always think, "yeah... you'll see! and when i wear my hair down, YOU won't get a second glance, boo!"

This from the November issue of Sophisticate's Black Hair regarding buns/chignons:

Remember, with a style this streamlined, makeup needs to be on point! Likewise, dramatic jewelry (earrings or necklace) will help enhance the final effect.

The face makes the difference when the hair's drawn back.

Very true. If you have a cute face, guys are gonna be checking you out, bun or no bun!!!

Also, a little makeup (especially lipgloss) doesn't hurt!! A bun can give you a very elegant look, which a lot of guys find really sexy!!

You're right; the focus is on the face. I find that big earrings look nice with pulled back hair. When I wear my hair down, I don't always do earrings, cause they don't get seen too much.
It is nice when a man notices a woman with a bun, but alot of them prefer flowing locks. Now, do we always care--NO!

I get the same amount of attention. As many have mentioned, it's all about dressing it up and playing with the rest of your look. I've been told so many times that I look really good if not better with my hair away from my face (in a ponytail, bun, or just a few strands pulled away) and I have to say I agree. And as long as your comfortable, guys pick up on the confidence level and that makes about 75% of the difference.

"Broken neck" incident report:

In September, I had my laptop hard drive replaced

at the University Computers store on my campus. I wore the ringlets down that day. The repair guy was this tall, dark, handsome black man. He did the replacement himself the same afternoon that I walked in so that I wouldn't have to wait the usual 2 weeks. What a

!

So today I went to lunch. My hair is down for a change and still straight from Friday's trip to the Dominican salon. As I was going out the door of the engineering building, the University Computers guy was entering the building for a service call. When he saw me, he did a serious double take and his eyes lit up. (He prolly recognized me from before.) I hope the people I was with didn't notice...

Thank you Mariaat40, I agree with this. I don't wear much jewelry but I think I'll look for some really nice, big earrings.

Leshia,
Not trying to get off topic but, how do you wear your two buns? In the back? I'm considering wearing more than one...

[/ QUOTE ]

I wear them as though I'm wearing two ponytails. Sometimes, they're on the sides, other times, they're down low or up high...just depends where they go that day...It's a much better look for me than just one bun.

I bet those styles look very pretty. Maybe I'll try that tomorrow just to see what it looks like on me. I'll buy me another bun donut. At first I thought you meant wearing 2 verical buns, which I may also try.

I have to giggle at this thread because my ex-fiancee HATED when I wore my hair up. He told me once that he was going to send me to the beauty shop with a note for my stylist:

"Leave her hair down"!

And whenever I would show up at his house with a beautiful french roll he would eyeball it and tell me, " I'm f**king up that bun tonight"!

Well, I wore two buns today, not on the sides but low behind my ears. It looked good to me and I received a compliment from girl (white) who said she loved that style and may try it herself. I didn't have my second bun donut yet but put my hair in 2 ponytails (with scrunchies), twisted my hair and tucked them under. My hair was still damp today from airdrying so this was a great style! I will play with the two buns to see how I can improve on them.

Thank you again Leshia!

I wore another bun style today that looked pretty good. It's a variation of the bun I'm wearing low on one side (which I love). This time I used one of my silk scrunchies which is kind of large. I put it around my ponytail about 3 times, then pulled it down a little so it looked like a piece of silk was wrapped around my hair. Then I tucked the ends of my hair under the lowest part of the scrunchy. It looked pretty and was like an elongated bun. This style also turned some heads.

Isis, I forgot to tell you, women compliment me left and right when i wear my buns. I've even had people do the same thing right after complimenting me! One guy even came up and said his wife loved my hair. It's kinda funny, but as long as it works! Now, if you ask my husband what HE thinks....He's prolly over in a corner cursing my buns as I type!

I'd love to see pics of this!

When I wore buns in the past, I looked pretty because I FELT pretty. As was said before, folks pick up on the energy you give off, which is base largely on how you feel about yourself. Plus, Im the makeup queen, so a well made-up face and pretty hoop earrings can really do the trick.
