How do men really feel about women who wear buns? A male friend of mine said that a bun does nothing for alot of men and that it can mean that you don't have alot of style. I know better, but alot of men do feel this way. Some guys equate the bun style to a prudish, "librarian" (sorry to offend any stylish librarians). Other think it means we didn't have the money to get our hair "did". Any comments?

Mods, I apologize in advance if this should be OT!

Well I wear a varied bun where I twist the end and pin it up. The way I sass it up is all in the rest of my attire and make up. You can change it around a bit with a simple left or right parting that can make a lot of differece, and try adding flowers or sparkly pins to your hair to jazz it up. This protective style really does work for me and I wouldn't change it fo the world, or a man as it gets me the most inches in terms of growth. Other than that a simple bun with no colour or flair added is boring and i would have to agree with the men on that one.

Hey LD :waving:

I wear the most bland bun around... it looks very full, but other than that its has abosoluetely NO syle! Melodee, i think your friend is right, whenever i want to feel sexy or attractive i wear my hair down.

My boyfriend prefers my hair down. He doesn't hate the bun, but like your male friend says, it does nothing for him.

Yup they like hair flowing in the breeze so they can run there fingers through it. I got tired of having to wear my hair a certain way to be pleasing to a man. Maybe thats one reason I don't have one now

. I am wearing a bun right now because its what I want to do. I'm still cute. You can see my lentgh and when I get some dates I will whip it out when I'm ready.

I also now that when its up I get way less attention and thats what I wanted for a while.

Well, I don't get many stares from men when I'm wearing a bun.

However, when I let that baby down, it is a different story. I guess the bun just isn't an attention grabber.

Maybe I need to start wearing it down on the weekends.

That may be so and it's def. my fear

but since I've begun wearing buns I've been told more than once that I look like a "hot librarian".

So it's not all men. Just like anything else, it's a good look for those who can appreciate it. And for those who can't - there's the flowing locked pocahantas "you" who comes out at night - and she's only a hot 11 or 12 months away!

I've gotten compliments about my bun. I think that might be because of the fact that I wear my hair parted with a little bang instead of straight back. I put on a little lipstick, and some mascara, and guys always look.

I feel that your friend is right. It is a little boring. I wear my hair up 98% of the time, and I think it's all in the outfit. What you wear can really make your hair look better than it actually is. I'm a good dresser, so when I wear my hair in a bun, I still look nice. But like someone says, a part and ornaments can make a bun look phenomenal.

My grad school girlfriends and I agree that we get more play with our hair down. I wear my bun high or low with 2 Good Hair Day pins to secure it (no elastic). No makeup or earrings. I feel rather plain. My buns are boring.

I'm always noticing other cute girls with buns on hair-conscious days. The face makes the difference when the hair's drawn back.

My boyfriend likes the ringlets down, and so do I. It's ringlets down for special events.

I do this too! I wear mine the same way. I even bought a new red lipstick to wear with my new dark haired banged look. Very Penelope Cruz...

Ha! who cares what these men think! I'm growing my hair, lol. wear the bun now so that you can have the long hair later... they WILL APPRECIATE THE RESULTS. (i know the bun is boring, but honestly i would rather longer hair in the future than for some guy to be entertained by my hair )

I've gotten a lot of compliments on mine. I wear it parted on one side and I keep it sleek and smooth. I wear a foam foundation in mine to give it a nice fat look.

My eyebrows are done neatly (not arched to death, only the strays are plucked) and I wear MAC Lipglass so my guy friends say "Your a classy chick". I dress nicely too, so I don't look "boring". I think your smile and personality shine past all that.

Frankly, I couldn't care less what some guy thinks about how I wear my own hair. I'm not here on this planet to attract all sorts of vermin.

That said, I love my buns. I think it's chic & sophisticated & my dh has never complained--he's more interested in my hair being long, he doesn't really care how I wear it.

So far, I've been greeted by a peck on the neck rather than on the lips from my fiance who keeps proclaiming that wearing my hair "up" makes me look refined and elegant and makes having my hair down on occasion even more beautiful because it's fuller, more moisturized, and in the end, longer.

Ok update! Isn't this funny. I'm at the gym and the older woman who happens to work out Monday nights says I look sophisticated with my hair this way, Out of the blue! Then she tells me about her sons. Now that I think about it I do get looks at the gym, (I don't wear skimpy clothes). I thought it was because its the gym! I guess it isn't hurting. She said I look very classy and I should have a boy. Mind you, this is an Italian woman, bout 50.

I've gotten compliments when wearing my hair up...so it doesn't worry me too much. Still, I've gotten more "broken necks" when I've worn my hair down...

I get compliments on my buns, namely my French Twists and now my new side buns (thanks to Mindymouse). I think it's all about how we wear or dress up our buns and what the whole picture looks like.

I look forward to getting some "broken necks" one day!

I definitely get more "looks" when it's down from men and women alike. But like my girls said above--WHO CARES??!!!!
laugh.gif

I actually think that for a man who has seen you with your hair down (that you're not already involved with)like say a co-worker--the bun is a sexy thing. They know that you have all this hair up there and they're probably fantasizing about taking it down

You ladies are utterly inspiring! I love your attitudes and commitment... I'm getting to the bun stage soooooon.. I gave in this weekend and bought some LUST. I used it tonite and just finished rollersetting. Let's see what happens in the AM!! I'm so excited..

I agree that buns can be sexy as it arouses the imagination. But I think those male fantasies can happen even if a man hasn't yet seen us with our hair down.
grin.gif

I also agree that it really doesn't matter what others think about us and our hair. I think how we feel and think about ourselves is what matters and this affects our whole look and what we project. However, it does feel good to receive compliments on my hair because it's like confirmation that my regime is working!

I'm gonna have to concur with this opinion. I wear not one, but TWO buns and they're wet, and I still get attention. Tendrils fall, since I'm very layered, so it's never quite neat and tidy buns. But, I wear my mascara, hair accessories, earrings and dress to impress and the buns just don't seem to matter. I can certainly understand some not dressing it up at all; sometimes, you just don't want to be bothered and don't even notice the men who are so-called not noticing you....<shrugs> It is quite tempting to consider in another year it's a "new you". Rock on, buns!

Leshia,
Not trying to get off topic but, how do you wear your two buns? In the back? I'm considering wearing more than one...
