With Love & Silk
I have been using Pantene wrap/set plus L'Oreal Smooth Intense Serum. I am now out of the serum and it has been discontinued. :cry3: I am at somewhat of a loss for what to use for my sets now.

Please give me some suggestions for a shiny, bouncy, set that not too hard but will last a couple of days. TIA

The Wrapp-It Shine Foaming Lotion by Nairobi is guaranteed to give you that salon beautiful set everytime. (okay why do I sound like an infomercial here??)
The good thing is that you can use a ridiculously excessive amount of this stuff and your hair wont be hard or greasy looking when you're finished drying. You will have nothing but bounce and swing!!! HTH

Awww...congrats on our wedding. You look soooo purty!!! :)

Ok...back to the topic.

In my opinion: No setting lotion. Check MaCherie's blog - she did a post on how her hair had the most bounce when she stuck to water, some leave-in and serum (for the ends).

Thanks for the shout out Ms Nadi:D

Yeah I was the setting lotion queen but I tried using water, leave-in and serum and my hair was outstanding. The best its ever been. To think, all that money I wasted...sigh.

Here's my two cents on using product while setting

1) Water, leave-in and serum -

Pro:

It will give u straight hair with bounce and shine

Con:

My hair tends to dry out quicker with this combo(not sure why) so I have to moisturize effectively

Humidity with mess ur ish up cause there is no product acting as a shield to keep moisture out

2) Setting Lotion

Pro:

Curls may stay longer, hair appears more volumous cause the product is helping lift the hair off the scalp.

Con:

With some setting lotions, hair will feel hard or not have very much bounce or shine. The product can often coat the hair and make it look dull. Some setting lotions are the bomb and these things dont happen.

3) Oil Moisturizer and water

Pro:
Made my hair appear thicker and softer.

I think that the moisturizer coats the hair, locking in moisture from conditioning and locking out the water used while setting. This allows the hair to retain some of its natural texture as its not as drenched as when you are using plain water. See, when your hair is drenched, water molecules imbedded in your strands are heavy and act as weights. This is why your hair is longest when wet and why you get the straightest hair when you rollerset with soaking wet hair. When I coat the hair with moisturizer, the hair isnt as wet and isnt as straight so my natural texture is still there. This makes my hair appear fuller and thicker. The oils in the mositurizer soften the hair.

Another Pro is that my hair will feel very hydrated for a few days .....but then get dry. Since, I locked out the moisture, its not be supplemented. Thus, drier hair in the end.

Con:

I think that my hair loses a little bounce. But if I want very supple luscious thick hair, I like this method.

This is based on my own experiences and also on the information I read about how hair reacts. So this might now be the case for everyone:D

so, do you use a liquid or creamy leave in??

Im using liquid now since Im so heavy handed with the cream...

SALERM 21, LACIO, LOTTABODY = AMOUNTS (APPROX 1-2 OZS)
Splash of oil (I use coconut)
and a little water to mix.

This gives me the bomb rollersets EVERY TIME!!!!!!

Haha...no problem. Hope you didn't mind. For future reference, for ladies who have questions that you have answers to, do we have permission to direct people to your blog?!

This is the rollersetting DIVVVAAA!

I use the first option: Leave-in, a smudge of oil, and some serum

Creamy leave-in or liquid leave-in?

Umm, I think it depends on your personal preference. I prefer creamy and I know a lot of others like Rusk SMoother and NTM for example. They are creamy.

Thanks Mizani!!!!

Those arent the only combos. Other rollersetters have had success with plenty of other methods, Im sure.

macherieamour, thanks for sharing!!!

For my rollersets I have been using Rusk Smoother and I just started using Lacio Lacio. I'm thinking about incorporating my Fantasia Olive Oil serum for additional shine + oil.
