The only problem is I don't think she really uses heat protectant. I asked her if she used heat protectant. She said she didn't, but sometimes she uses some Chi stuff that she pointed out. I didn't know what that was. But I'm thinking for $20, when I can't really find any reasonable person to do my hair, I can buy my own heat protectant and bring it in.

If you were in this position, would you be skeptical or go for it?

I'd bring heat protectant and go for it. Just make sure she really is using it on each section.

There are lots of salons in Brooklyn that do wash & sets with blow drying for $10 (Monday - Wednesday typically) and I don't think they make any real money with those prices. They must rely on tips and repeat customers?

Yup me too.

Sounds like a good deal if you don't mind supplying your own protectant. And at least you'll be aware of what she is using on your hair.

i saw your hair when you had a siggy up. don't do it! :nono: your hair is gorgeous and i would hate to see you post a thread about heat damage because a stylist cut corners. please find a good stylist if you are going to pay someone to straighten your hair. i wouldn't risk my hair for $20. as the saying goes, "if it sounds too good to be true then it probably is". saying she sometimes uses chi protectant is a huge red flag, imo. stay away!

eta: i get you can bring your own stuff but a stylist who doesn't understand the full importance of using protectant when straightening hair is one who i think may be uneducated about a lot of other stuff. i would be wary of her doing other things which would damage your hair.

I prefer taking my products to the salon. Then I know for sure what products are being used and evaluate their effectiveness. What's the charge for a rollerset?

Shoot... I wish I could find a deal like this! I would bring in my own heat protectant, make sure she uses it. What part of GA is the stylist in?

In Philly the domincan salons do your hair for only $22.00 and that includes wash, rollerset, blowdry, flat iron and curls :yep:

I've been stressing trying to find someone who can do my hair. I was in a parking lot at Radio Shack yesterday, and I saw an old black lady walk out of the salon with her hair done. It donned on me, that someone does black hair in that salon. I went in and first saw a white lady in a room doing hair. Then I heard some black people talking. I went to the next door, and there was this 40 or 50-something black lady doing this older black lady's hair. It looked to be like a natural or texturized fade. I asked if anybody there does natural hair, and she said that she does. She asked if I wanted twists. I said that I wanted it straightened. She said that she straightens, not with a straightening comb but with a Chi flat iron.

The lady is old school, so I guess I'm a little concerned about her not using heat protectant. I'll just bring my own, but I want to make sure that my hair doesn't get damaged. I wonder what tempature the Chi should be on.

Halimah, I'm pretty sure the Domicans would not do my natural hair for $22.

Platinum, we're not in Georgia. That's why I couldn't find anyone to do my hair. I wish I were so I could go to ATL and get the hook up!

Bring your own heat protectant. I'd rather have a flat iron than all that blowing the Domincans use. My hair is not strong enough for that.
