Okay, so I bought 8 flexirod yesterday----4 of the jumbo & 4 of the super jumbo.

I have layered shoulder length hair and I rolled 4 sections with the super jumbo ones. Lets just say I look like crap. How do you properly use them on short hair.

You may need smaller rods. I started wearing flexis when I had shoulder length hair and had great results. I have a tutorial in my fotki.:)

Thanks for coming in here....I know you are the queen.

I don't like the smaller ones, I just want a few loose curls, I always wear my hair pin straight or up in a clip. I will look at your fotki and get back with you.

Do you roll your hair dry (lightly misted with water) or wet set it. Also I air dry.

If you roll it dry the curls will be looser. I do it on wet air and usually let it airdry.

Be sure to use some type of wrap foam or setting lotion. My hair is neck length and I struggled a little bit with the shorter parts in the back. Its to explain how to make them stay in your head. Just make sure you are rolling in a spiral and not like rollerset, hold the flexirod tight to your head and then bend the rod in a way to hold fairly firm. I don't know how else to explain it. I'm new to it too. Hopefully, Alexstin will come in and offer som help.

WHOOPS!! Alexstin is good. She already popped in. My bad. lol

;) Hee Hee!!!

Okay, I am now seeing my mistakes.

1. I rolled like I was doing a roller set (not to say that I know how to do one of those either:cool: )

2. Nope didnt use any type of foam/setting lotion either, just a litte dove mist and water

So I deserved to be jacked up, I will try again tonite.

THANKS

alexstin----I have the same size as you do in your fotki.

I used foam in the beginning but I no longer do. That will probably make your curls last longer but they may be tighter also. Just play around with it. Once you get the technique down they are hard to do wrong.

I didn't start out using blue and purple. Initially it was purple and gray rods but maybe your combo will give you the results you're seeking.:)

Thank you for creating this thread!!! I bought some yesterday and played around with them last night and now I'm HIDING in my office looking at HOT MESS hoping that I can up my hair appointment with my stylist for today or tomorrow. I wanted to cry this morning when I got up.

I looked like something out of a BOOK (not good) LOL!!

I did them on dry hair but I moisturized my hair last night and didnt put paper on my ends so they look HIT right now.....I dont even want to explain how bad things look to me right now.

Alexistin thanks for the tutorial...I'll try it again soon but for now I need to get this stuff WASHED!:lachen:

I am trying to figure out what size to use. My back is shoulder lengh but my sides are chin lenght. I was looking at the red one for me. Looking at my avator what would you suggest. I was going to try this yesterday but wasn't sure what size to get.

Great... It is refreshing to know that I am not the only one looking a HAM :) I was for sure I knew what I was doing. But practice makes perfect.

I'm not sure of the order of sizes smaller than gray. When I did it for the first time, since I wasn't sure of the right size, I just put one flexirod in to see how the curl looked.

Maybe 2 sizes under the gray?

Thanks that helps. Two sizes under the gray. I just want to get the right sizes since they cost so much.

I have recently started using them and I hated it at first plus it took forever to dry. However it has grown on me and I think its going to remain my staple style. I am in the process of making the curls last 3 weeks and have updated pics in my fotki at various intervals. I roll it mostly how I would a regular rollerset as i have trouble putting them in vertically. I dont use a setting lotion, instead I use a leave in and a serum. I tend to leave my curls in tact 1st and then separate them every few days or so. I have pics in my jan and feb album. I will be re-setting this weekend. I also wrote about it in my fotki journal.

My mom helped me flexirod my hair last night ( I struggle, I hate not being able to see the back, plus it only takes her like 20 min to do my whole head!)
My hair is shoulder length and I use mostly the orange ones, and a few purple. I used a setting lotion then sat under the dryer for about an hour, then let them air dry the rest of the way. When I took them out they were very tight, so I finger combed them to loosen them. The result is a spiral curl looking fro! I love it!

I might buy some flexi's tonight... i am 4a relaxed. do any of you ladies find that w/airdrying flexi's you still need a little heat? i have NEVER airdried my rollersets so i'm not sure about the end result... i don't want to look like a rag doll :-)

thanks

I go under the dryer for 3 hours on medium then airdry for about 3/4 more hours to make sure they are all completely dry... I couldn't airdry completely as mine is underprocessed and would be very frizzy.

WOW:eek: So pretty and it has lasted this long...? How many rods did you use and did you dry under the hooded dryer or air dry? I'm off checking your fotki.....

Airdrying takes a LONG time. It's best to sit under the dryer then when you can't stand it anymore, just airdry for the REST OF THE DAY. no j/k. But it takes forever.

Thanks! For some reason they just take way longer than a normal rollerset. My hair in a normal set is dry by 2 hours max. I spent 3 hours under the dryer (set about 2pm) and had to leave some in until 2 am as they were not dry! They are not fun to sleep in either. Maybe its just my hair, some say theirs drys in 1 hour, good luck...

 your hair!! I just checked out your updated fotki and your set looks fabulous! I can't beleive you can make it last so long. I'm definitely going to incorporate this as part of my protective hairstyle routine once my braids are out next month. I really love the loose ponytail that you do with the set as well. It is soo pretty.

So did you just use a leave in conditioner and began setting? Did you also use a serum or a setting lotion?

Thanks, flexi's are the way to go, jump on that bandwagon girl! Lol! I go out with the loose pony too, so convenient. I used Giovanni Direct Leave in to detangle after a wash. I then used Giovanni Frizz Be Gone Serum on each section before I rolled. I dont ever use setting lotions, they make my hair too hard!

I love your flexi set. What is your bedtime regimen to keep them looking nice ..:)

For the pic in your siggy do you roll it evey night to get the curls to last 3 weeks?

That would take too much time, no way, i'm too lazy! I have put 2 satin sponge rollers in the front on 2 occassions as those curls seem to get squashed the most, other than that I have not re-rolled. As for the rest, its just a matter of oiling every few days, sleeping with a net/up in a loose pony and satin scarf and shaking my head alot in the morning. Plus I do mad cardio every day and I'm 9 weeks post, flexis are the way to go! Try it!

I just finished singing the praises of your flexirod set in another thread, Lonei. So beautiful and long-lasting. Do you pin the curls underneath the net overnight? Or do you just place the net over the curls and sleep? I always have trouble keeping curls overnight. Maybe I sleep too wild or something.

Airdrying with flexis has always worked perfectly for me.I find, now that my hair is longer I prefer to sit under a cool dryer for awhile. When my hair was shoulder length, though, I would airdry and yes, it did take alllllllllll day.
