Flat Iron vs Relaxer

Hey ya'll, I'm back from my four day vacation! Woohoo!

I did a search for this but couldn't find anything that wasn't for already relaxed hair. I have virgin hair (it's been relaxed a few times, but none of it took so it may as well be virgin. ;) ) Well, o'er the vacation I realized the only reason I haven't been straightening my real hair is because I'm afraid to lose it.

So I decided to stop being a scaredy cat and go through with it!

Well my question is... Which is healthier; flat ironing the virgin hair on a reg. basis or getting it relaxed? (If I got it relaxed I would get it bone straight, I'm scared of heat and would never use it on already relaxed hair!)

flat iron is better for the hair i think. i used to think it's better to relax and i did with phyto for 3yrs, but i'm transitioning. in the end a relaxer is just a relaxer and i want my natural hair back in its full glory. flat ironed natural hair looks better and is much healthier if done infrequently...i'm thinking every 10days. and i'm not talking about an old fashioned press&curl, just a blowdry on low and a flat ironing of the hair.

I TOTALLY agree. However, if you want to wear your hair straight most of the time you might be better off relaxing and rollersetting. If you think you'll want the best of both worlds I'd stay natural and flat iron.

I want to wear it straight the majority of the time. I also work around heat, if that might influence it.

When I get to APL, I'm planning to start flatironing every other week with rollersets in between. Natural hair definitely looks better when flatironed although I'm sure there are some exceptions. I tend to flatiron my hair more during the winter months(every two weeks). In the end, do what makes you fell best.
