Ladies what are your tips for using a flatiron?

No oil on hair, protective serum on hair? What are you all doing?

After shampooing and conditioning, I apply a leave-in conditioner and moisturizer to my hair while it's still wet. After air drying, I flat iron my hair. Afterwards, I put some serum on my hair each day until it's time to shampoo / condition again.

I wash/condition and apply a leave-in/blow dry lotion. (I'm still looking for a good blow dry lotion, so if anyone has some suggestions.) Then I apply some Kenra serum (the BEST) and flat iron. I may try Allandra's method of airdrying instead of blowdrying when I get my Solia. :)

I use a leave-in spray 1st. I have trying to use all the ones I own, and right now I am working on my bottle of

Then I apply a mixture or cyclomethicone. dimethicone and Hemp Seed Oil.

I put these on before drying my hair, but after drying I don't apply additional product.

I used to use WGO and loved the results, but i don't like seeing or smelling smoke from the flatiron so I stopped using it.

After I wash and condition..I put in my leave in and then I air-dry...I then use a serum(Fantasia IC flat iron serum) and flat iron....I find the less product...the better

....though recently i tried blow drying with an ionic blow dryer before flat ironing and my hair come out waaaaaaaay nicer than when i air dry....

I think the key to a really good flat ironing job...is to get it as straight as possible before you iron it....

I wash/condition, then apply a leave-in comb it through, then apply a serum & either do six twists or bantu knots and air dry. When fully dry I flat iron in sections and add a gloss/shine product. I also crosswrap and reapply gloss...or sometimes jojoba oil to the ends for maintenance.

After washing, I DC, add leave-in, serum, roller set or airdry, then flat iron. I thought that I might need to add some sort of heat protectant. Is serum enough?? I forgot to use serum last week and after I flatironed my hair is was r.o.u.g.h. So is serum key?

Serum is key for me to get silky, shiny hair. KENRA IS THE TRUTH!

I agree. They are all based with Silicone.

I can just be the silicon industry's stalker because I love what it does for hair.

Before flat ironing, I shampoo, preferably deep condition, apply a leave-in or some type of heat protectant and allow my hair to airdry a bit before I blow dry on a warm setting. I prefer to blowdry when my hair is at least 50% dry, and I do so in four sections, then two. I don't use any oils or heavy pomades as I don't want to weigh my hair down, gunk up my flat iron or see it smoking as it glides through my hair.

Sure, hon. I use Ion Heat Protection Straightening Iron Spray that I bought at Sally. My hair is easily weighed down, so I spray it on very lightly all over my hair instead of spraying each section.

Thanks! My new iron came and I'm getting ready to take it for a test! Guess I gotta make a run to Sally's!

Hmmmm, most of y'all air dry. I guess no one would set hair on rollers first?
If I set my hair on rollers first, then I won't need to flat iron my hair (since a roller set - then wrapping) makes my hair straight.

i tried this tonight and I love the way my hair came out.

After I deep condition, I let my hair air dry in a ponytail (or two), then when its almost dry, I blow dry until completely dry, detangle with a wide tooth comb, and makes 6 sections. One by one I detangle again with a rattail comb, add a little serum, then flat iron in small sections within the section I'm working on. The more detangled my hair is (rattail goes through without snags) the smoother, shinier, and longer my hair will last.

If you put serum after blow drying, does it smoke, sizzle or burn in your hair?
I have always used serum before blow drying.....:look:
Ill try it this way next time
