First JC Penney Experience (Long)

NOT GOOD!!!

Getting ready for my cruise, I decided I wanted a professional to do my hair. They always seem to do a better job than I do. Last time my hair was bouncy and shiny and you couldn't even tell that it was thinner, but the lady who did it before only works on Saturday now. So I decided I would go to JC Penney because I had heard some good things.

I tried to do a walk-in and the lady told me, the only people that did African-American hair were booked solid and she could get me in for a wash & set only and it would be two and half hours later. I said okay.

I came back at the appointed time and sat for 10 minutes and stylist comes up and says, "I'll be about 10 minutes, I had a walk-in". Okay, I tried that and it didn't work for me. I waited another 20 minutes and was 2 minutes from leaving when she reappeared and said she was ready.

I told her about the walk-in thing and she said she didn't understand why that happened but just ask for her next time.

She kept telling me how pretty & long my hair was and said I must be part Indian. She said a lot people don't like to do long hair but she loved it and that she never got jealous. She told me to be careful cause some stylist get jealous of people with long hair. (My hair is kinda "jacked" at the moment, it thin, shedding & breaking) I explained that I was having hair problems and she told me how she could really grow hair and that she could stop the breaking cold.

She washed my hair, blow dried and then, filled it grease. I asked "What are you putting on my hair" She said "Grease, girl, I'm old school". When she finished my hair looked even thinner, I had a greasy fore head and it wasn't even straight. (I could have done better myself).

I went to pay the bill and didn't pay it much attention, I used my debit card. When I went to put it in the check book, I notice a $15.00 charge for long hair. I WISH I HAD LONG HAIR. My hair is little below my shoulders, not even what I would call medium, maybe almost medium.

Don't think I'll be going back.

I am so sorry you experienced this. Word to the Wise, get reviews on a stylist before you go!!!!!! You at least know what they can do!

I know what you mean. When she was heaping this praise about how long my hair was I was thinking, "I don't have long hair" and I told her that. She goes "Girl, yes you do, and not many of us have hair like this"

Besides all that, she put big globs of grease in hair. Now, I'm not opposed to grease and will oil my scalp every once in a while but man you could see where it wasn't even rubbed into my scalp.

Girl, you a good one because I would have stopped her. As long as I am a paying customer, I want the service I ask for. Old school or not, I would have put a red light on her!

Im sorry to hear about your experience. I too went to JC Penney and didn't have a good time. The person I had must not have known that you must LEAVE THE CONDITIONER IN before you detangle it. I could hear my hair breaking. We all learn from our mistakes .... erplexed

Funny I had similar jacked up Jc Penney experience a few years back. I called beforehand and specifically asked if there was someone who could do a press and curl. The one black lady beautician said yes but when I got there, silly lady had I gold n' hot electric press. And no flat iron. I should have walked out then because I knew my hair would not get straight with the thing. I walked out with diane ross hair- not the look I was going for.
Side note- whenever hair dressers start talking about how lush my hair is, I always know its a hustle to justify charging more. I know my hair actually is thick but I usually complain (I mean, it's not like they charge less for near bald ladies) and almost always get my way. And I never appreciate the after the fact mark-up.
Well you know what they said- know you know and knowing's half the battle.

dang, thats pretty bad. everyone so far has had a bad experience with them? i used to work at a salon, regis, and they had a $10.00 extra fee for long hair, but the stylist has to go through and add it in their self. if your hair was a little past your shoulders she definately should not have charged you that. long hair is inches down your back and she was not supposed to do that. she just wanted to make that extra buck.. unfortunately thats all its about (from what i've seen)

That right there, would have been enough for me. I had one really, extra bad experience in Pittsburgh and vowed never to take ish from a stylist again.

In fact, one time when dh and I drove up to pittsburgh I had an appointment a Bobby J's (ladies from Pitt may know of this salon). I told the receptionist I wanted a dry cut:
me: yes, dry.
her: (attitude) hold on (in background - yeah, she said sumpin about a dry cut...) Yeah, hello? come in at 2.

I get there at 2, wait, wait, wait...the place is packed and there are hot combs and flat irons just a flying.

The stylist, after 30 minutes, mianders over and says, "You wann a dry cut? Well, I can't cut your hair like that, because it's curly. You need to get cho hair WARSHED and blow dried."

Me: (like an idiot) ok.
After waiting another 15 minutes, I called dh and told him to come pick me up. I was not about to have another stylist snatch me bald, at least not in Pittsburgh again....hmmmphf

I hate when someone brags about their skills that is usually a sure sign of them not knowing what the hell they are doing!

sorry about your bad experience @ JC Penny's. I notice we live in the same area. I had a bad experience a few years ago at the Jc Penny @ Collin Creek.

Well I had a positive experience with a JC Penney stylist and trust I didn't do any research. It was by sheer luck that she knew what she was knowledgeable in health hair care. But now that I have moved, I need to find another stylist.

you had this kind of service from JC Penny's Salon, wow!!!!! the one where i live is the bomb!!!! My best friend has beening going there for years she even gets "dominican" blow- outs from there, i guess it depends on the stylists, i would make a customer complaint to them if i were you oh yeah my friend has long hair almost to her armpits and i don't ever recall her having a "long hair charge"

OMG!!! I'm not from Pittsburgh, but my BF is and during a visit he decided to treat me to a hair do at BOBBY J'S! His whole female family goes there. Well, I was deeply disappointed. The only good thing was that I went there for color and the girl said that I should wait b/c I had just relaxed. Other than that, there's a guy that works there that was brushing my hair my WET!!! I could hear the snaps and insisted (nicely) that he stop. Also, I warned the girl about heat in my hair and she put about a pound of GREASE on it... I looked a hot mess.

Funny that I'm reading this b/c I went to Penney's this wknd to scope out a stylist to do some color. While I didn't see the girl I came to see work (her appts weren't coming 'til later) I must say that I wasn't impressed. Nothing looked "salon fresh". I thought one lady was coming in for her appt but actually she was just LEAVING!!!! Terrible!!
