FHI Runway users who previously owned the Platform...

Is the Runway SIGNIFICANTLY better than the Platform? And if so, how? I understand that the Runway has full ceramic plates, but does the results on your hair feel DRAMATICALLY different then if you were to use the Platform?

Also, could you guys please state whether you're relaxed or natural? I read in a previous thread that Runway was perfect for natural hair...and if that's the case, does that mean a relaxed head (like myself) wouldn't find the Runway necessary?

Sorry, I just wanna make sure that I'm investing my money to something that will rock my world...I have a platform and am extremely happy with it, but if the Runway creates results that ARENT EVEN CLOSE to comparable, I may just have to upgrade...:yep:

I purchased a Runway about a month ago and used it for the first time last week. It only took one pass to get my 17 months post transitioning hair BONE STRAIGHT and silky with tons of body.

I ordered a Platform from Amazon in September 2008, used it, and sent it right back. I had to use two to three passes for each section and my hair still had a lot of texture.

Same products, same technique, total difference in my hair. The FHI Runway is a great investment.

DARN IT. I have the platform ($350) and was NOT impressed. My sister tried it and wasn't impressed with my iron either. It made me feel "special" for blowing that much on something that didn't work well. I could never find the right temperature to flat-iron at and even low ones left my hair feeling crispy, which never happens with my original GHD (which I heart). But now my appliance junkie side wants to play with the runway! bumping...

I do agree that the best thing about the FHI runway is that it straightens in just one pass. Other than that, I really don't see anything really special about it. I am natural.

Congrats on ur growth since 07... How long did the press last b4 reversion?

Eeek, 350 for the Platform?!?!

What do you think your main problem with Platform was? Did it not get hot enough, snag, took too many passes to get your hair straight, etc.

Also, are you relaxed or natural?

I used both. I purchased from Amazon, used it, and then returned it. I had to use about 2 or 3 passes before it was decent and then it reverted by that evening. I purchased the runway and used it and it got my hair stick straight with 1 pass (I am natural btw). My hair was straight for a week without any reversion even while it was raining and humid here in Atlanta.

I'm natural, 4b. BTW, I think it was $350 because it was the Platform Special Edition Ceramic Tourmaline...blah blah...basically I got gipped :D My main issues? 1. My hair texture wasn't blinging after I used it like with other flat irons. 2. It did seem to snag 3. The crispy ends on my hair. 4. I could have it set to 370 (the same temp my original GHD goes to) and it didn't straighten nearly as well as it. My little sister just has a CHI and has something like 3b/c hair (mixed texture) and was excited to try her big sister's fancy expensive new flat iron and didn't like it either. She noticed the same exact issues with the texture not really straightening, and the crispy-ishness of your hair. I've heard that other people like it, but me personally am not impressed and it's been used 3 times and just sitting in my closet ever since. I need to sell it but not motivated enough :) The runway sounds awesome! I want to try it though, my GHD is awesome, so it would have to be noticeably better. Hope this helps!

Thanks! Yeah, I feel like I'm leaning towards the Runway, but I'm relaxed and the Platform gets my hair straight w/ no problems...but people make the Runway sound like a flat iron that had descended from the heavens and now I want it :-(

I'll make a deal with you, if either of us give in and get it let the other person know if it's way better or not! Unfortunately the only two places I know of that sell it here don't have it...so I think that's a sign for me to sit my little behind down and be quiet and happy with what I already have :)

What is your technique like? I purchased my platform from amazon (~$100). My hair came out delicious :lick:. I normally rollerset then flat-ironed, but since my hair wasn't dry when I took out the rollers, it reverted to it's natural state. Try using the comb chase method

If the FHI platform can do that....I can imagine what the runway must be like

At what temp. are you FHI Runway users flat ironing at? I'm transitioning, so I don't know how much heat to use because my roots are thick and highly textured, but my length isn't.

I was using serum. I am pretty certain it's not my technique because after the same wash session I used both and the GHD won. I went to work after flat-ironing with the GHD the first time and got compliments on my hurr, none when I did the FHI. I tried it on it's really high temp and lower ones. I think it's just one of those cases where it works great for some....just doesn't dig my head. I have a suspicion that my hair doesn't like tourmaline. Because I have the sedu that is ceramic and tourmaline and I don't like it either...and everyone else raves about it. For some reason I seem to do well with 100% ceramic. Which is why I'm so intrigued by the Runway because it has an adjustable temp AND it's 100% ceramic! What temp do you use on your Platform?

woohoo I'm getting the Runway. I like the name of it better anyway

but I'll still have to get a 1/4 or 1/2 inch iron for my roots and bangs!

Thank you! It has been a fun journey.

The press is still silky smooth and this friday will make it two weeks. I haven't been wearing it out though; on the HYH for 6 months challenge and still wigging it. I straightened it only to try out the flat-iron and take pics of course.

I had the temp at 350 degrees. My roots to about half my length is natural and the rest to the ends is texlaxed but still very, very textured. I am gazing BSL. I hope that makes sense. :drunk:

WOW!! that's awesome, just one pass? i'll consider this.

i found it at folica for $300.

which is still over 10 times more than i've paid for a flat iron  but... hmm... :scratchch

I fall into this category. I have the platform but noticed that the longer I stretched, the more passes and the higher the heat setting it took to straighten my hair. I ordered the runway ($242) and it gets my 44 week post hair straight with one pass with a nice shine! Love it. i do not let the runway out of my house

You guys have pretty much got me bout ready to purchase a runway, I'm just TOO curious...I just wanna find the best deal since I've done a lot appliance purchasing lately and can't spend TOO much.

I caved in. I got mine from beautychoice.com...not the cheapest I could get it for, but bought it for $324. How much was yours? I saw one on ebay new for $250 but I was scared of potential warranty issues. Beautychoice isn't an authorized seller but they are authentic guaranteed FHI's and they honor the 1 year warranty.

I'm curious, in addition to your relaxed/natural/transitioning status, for those who didn't like the Platform, what is your hair type and @ what temp were you flat ironing? I love my Platform, just trying to see if I'm really missing out on the Runway. TIA!

I feel like a lot of naturals are really loving the Runway...so as a relaxed head, would the Runway really be necessary for me? Should I just stick with the Platform?? I love it and have no issues with it, it's the curiousity that has me contemplating!!

If you love the platform and it gives you the results you desire, I would stick with it. The Runway is costly...although a great investment:grin:
