FHI Damp to dry versatility-is it safe for hair?

I just bought an FHI heat platform and on the back of the box it says: "Damp to Dry Versatility-can be used on damp hair (towel-dried)-no need for a blow dryer. This maximizes conditioning of the hair and saves time." What I want to know is does anyone use their FHI (or any similar flat iron) on the damp hair? Is it safe to flat iron hair that is not completely dry? It seems like blow drying is really hard on my hair, so it would be nice if I could actually skip blow drying without boiling my hair from the inside (I've heard that's what happens to your hair if you flat iron it while it is wet). TIA!

I have done it with my FHI; it was successful and I didn't see any damage, but it was something I didn't want to risk doing on a regular basis.
