I've been using Johnson's Gentle Treatment. It isn't necessarily my favorite, I just haven't explored others.

Thanks I have heard some bad things about african pride lately I am leaning towards soft&beautiful botanicals, gentle treament or optimum's new one

I used Gentle treatment for about 6 years. However, last week when I decided to perm, the store was out of GT. I went with Dark and Lovely. Oh my goodness!!! I have a new relaxer. Loving It!!!

I normally lurk, but I had to respond.

I used African Pride this weekend. I used the entire bottle of shampoo to rinse, lathering 4 or 5 times. On the last shampoo, it was still a little pink, but I thought it was okay.

When I woke up Sunday, my hair didn't feel right. Limp, dead, too straight despite the underprocessed waves and curlies. I decided to do an Aphogee treatment and grabbed some old Optimum neutr. shampoo to wash. Guess what? Pink. I had to wash three times before the lather was all white. I shudder to think what would have happened if I hadn't washed again. That is probably why the women on the other board lost their hair (I lurk there too!).

I like the way the African Pride feels; it is very soft for a no-lye. But if you use it, have some extra neutralizing shampoo handy.

HTH

I always have leftover shampoo from the African Pride, but I do have to use two boxes since I do half and half and the first batch isn't any good when I get around to the second half of my head.
I lather up 2 or 3 times, and the 3rd time I let the shampoo sit in my hair for a time to really make sure it is neutralized.
But having extra Neutralizing shmpoo on hand is ALWAYS a good idea when using the box relaxers. The bottles are small and as your hair grows, may not contain enough product to do the job.

HMM INTERESTING THAT IS WHAT I HEARD A LADY HARI CAME OUT FROM AFRICAN PRIDE MY MOM SAID I SHOULD TRY DARK AND LOVELY LOL RIGHT NOW I AM CONFUSED AND NEED TO GET RELAXED WITHIN THE NEXT WEEK!

Tiffy, what relaxer have you used in the past? Why not just use what you know?

UMM THE RELAXER I USED IN THE PAST WAS ULTRA SHEEN AND THE REASON MY SIDES BROKE OFF SO I WON'T BE USING IT AGAIN PLUS IT DIDN'T EVEN GET MY HAIR STRAIGHT

I alternate between no-lye relaxers. I used Gentle Treatment in the past, and African Pride as well. Now I'm deciding between At One Sensitive Scalp Relaxer(the one I used for transitioning my natural hair last fall), or trying TCB Naturals Relaxer. But for now, I'm sticking with At One 'cause it has 2 packets of the protector the keep the previous relaxed hair and ends from overprocessing. I really love what it did for my hair in the first place.

I use Luster's Smooth Touch relaxer and I love it, and the fact that it comes in a special "retouch" size sends it over the top.
