I've had this stuff in my closet for a couple of months b/c as a recovering PJ

I just "had" to have it after seeing of my inspirations use it. Of course, I had no idea what I'd use it for. My current regimen had been working just fine so why change it? I was too afraid to try something new and not like it, so I left it there till now with just a tiny mark from my finger testing it out.

Anyhow, after I washed my hair for the first time after my cut, I used this on the second day. I just applied it to different sections on top of my hair before smoothing back into my ponytail. I did this for about 4 days till I finally washed. I hadn't planned on even waiting that long to wash but this stuff was so wonderful! My hair was shiny, silky, smooth and soft - the 4 S's of Hair! It definitely gave it a wet and shiny look that I love. My hair stayed fresh looking...and my edges never waved back up and my hair never started to dry like it usually does on the 2nd or 3rd day. I only washed b/c I felt like I should.

Now, I washed again last night and used this in the morning and same results. The 4 S's! It also has a wonderful smell. If anyone uses Aura Humectant or Let's Jam, this is a great and recommended alternative. I've used both in the past and this stuff is far superior! I think it is wonderful at holding in moisture. I used to notice that the top of my hair would dry out but with this stuff, the top stays just as moisturized as underneath.

On the downside, it can be a tad bit greasy but not so much so that it's bothersome. That would be one reason to continue washing as usual though it does rinse out easily with just a conditioner wash.

If anyone is wondering, here's what the jar says:
*Adds moisture, texture and great shine to dry, brittle, stressed, and damaged hair. (That's me!)
*Defrizzes, straightens, smoothes, and tames wavy defiant hair for better manageability and control. (Definitely!)
*Mold, sculpt, slick, finger place and define styles
*Lite formula, water soluble, no alcohol, no buildup.

It's wonderful. I love it and always used it instead of the styling gel. The only other downside about the pomade (for people who avoid certain ingredients) is that it contains mineral oil.

Thanx for the review. I may try this to tame the little baby hairs sprouting on my temples. Glad you liked it and it didnt turn out to be a waste of money!

Hairlove:

So what do you like better: The ICE or the Frizz Buster gel? I have the latter which I bought per your raves and I love it. All your products reviews are so accurate. I just may pick this up too, LOL....just wondering if I need both (of course I don't but, oh well!)

shinyblackhair - I will be using both.

When I finish washing my hair and use my usual HHB, I use the frizz buster gel/pomade mixture to set my hair while I have a scarf on. Then, the NEXT day, I use the pomade. I only use the gel once whenever I wash whereas I will be using the pomade daily.

I tried the FrizzBuster gel and it really laid my hair down well in a pony.It got really really hard though as my hair dried. Is this normal? My hair was like a rock.Or id I use too much?

katie,

My guess is that you used too much. I have never experienced hardness from using the frizz buster gel. I only use a quarter sized dallop at every washing and mix it with pomade.

Okay, what's the difference between Fantasia IC Hair Polishing Styling Gel and Fantasia IC Ice Pomade? Do you use them both, and for different things?

One is a gel and one is a pomade.

I haven't used Let's Jam in probably 10 years. I definitely like this better.

I'm cautious of using any gel that has mineral oil in it. The last time I did, I got this sticky build up in my hair and it was hard to get it out. Maybe I used too much.

I use it sometimes. It's kinda like Jam Gel, but not quite as thick, and is a little greasier as well. I plan on using this for my air scrunching, when I return to this style in the spring. The difference between this and Jam is that this holds longer for me. I'll put some Jam on my hair and it'll dissipate in an hour. The Ice keeps my hair looking cool all day.

Hey HairLove,

Thanks for the review. I've used Aura Humectant in the past. It was ok, but since I wasn't using it very often, I gave it away. Now that you've posted this review, I'm torn between trying this and the Fantasia Frizz Buster Straightening Gel. I put the Fantasia Frizz Buster Straightening Gel on my 2004 to try list a couple of months ago. Ok. I've decided already. I'm going to go ahead with the Fantasia Frizz Buster Straightening Gel (some time in 2004) since I really don't need a pomade.

I use to use this, and thought it was great.. UNTIL...
I realized how greasy it can get. I mean sometimes I would be leaning my hand on my hair and would have oil over my hands.

I prefer the Hair Polishing Styling Gel for slicking down my hair, and it's not oily.

Okay, I just bought some of this stuff...I haven't used it yet, but I'm not feelin' the smell...

I also bought the Hair Polisher Styling Gel with sparkle lite - this smell lovely and I do have a feeling I'm gonna love this, it says it can be used for roller set and blow outs too...I doubt I'd use it this way tho...

I like the smell...it's kind of like jolly ranchers! LOL Smells better than aura pomade or let's jam...ick!

b&s creamy set is just gross...

I think that the smell depends on the batch. I have always had my eye on the pomade ever since trying the gel, but everytime I would smell it, it would smell like castor oil for some odd reason. Then I went to another store and it had a semi-sweet smell.

So what I am trying to say is smell around for a "sweet" smell which might mean that is only been out on the shelves for a short period of time.

Thanks for the great review, Hairlove

Would I be able to put a small amount of this in my hair (for the benefit of the 4 S's

) and wear my hair out? (Down, in a straight style?) Or would you say it is best for ponytails and buns? It sounds wonderful.

This sounds exactly like the Proclaism Crystal Ice Pomade that I like so much. It has mineral oil as like the second ingredient, it smooths and shines so well, but can get very greasy if you use too much. Is it the knockoff? Has anyone used both? How do they compare?

I've used both and they seemed identical. I'm really not a fan because they both cause my 4a new growth to revert rather than to stay straight.

I know I'm not Hairlove but here are the ingrediants:

Deionized Water,Mineral Oil,Oleth-5,Propylene Glycol, Peg-20 Hydrogenated Lanolin, Glycerine, Aloe Vera Gel, Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein, DMDM Hydantoin, Vitamin B-1, Niacin, Biotin, Vitamin B-6, Fragrance

beautyoftruth,

I would say that you could use it if you wear your hair out. I probably would take a dime/quarter sized amount and rub it in your palms before smoothing on your hair. I would not use too much.
