Failing a fast.

I call myself trying to go on a 7 day fast starting today. I was all good until a moment ago when I saw the Easter left overs on the table. The first thing I put in my mouth was a deviled egg...go figure, and then I started eating everything else.

Is there anyone else who has tried to fast but failed, especially if you knew that you were ordered by "Him" to do one in the first place?

Hi.

Stop beating yourself up; the enemy wants you to feel defeated. Just start over. Do it in prayer. Get in your prayer journal and start writing. Get some worship music on and start dancing-- you'll forget that you fell off.

And you don't even have to start over tomorrow-- you can just do it now. Think about why you are fasting. What breakthrough are you looking for? What are you asking God for? Think about these things and they will get you on target.

Yes. I think the first several times I tried to fast I failed (if that's the word we want to use). I ate food when on my 1st fast and it was only supposed to be for 3 days. Girl I made it 'till lunchtime. Then on my next attempt I forgot I was fasting on day 2. That was supposed to be for 3 days too.:yep: I was going about things all wrong. 1st of all I shouldn't have been trying to jump out and do week long fasts. Let me say those fasts were not God ordered but I was seeking him and trying to get some answers/ breakthroughs in my life. I found this book by (Christian) Dr. Don Colbert and read it. It really made a difference. My 1st successful fast was a juice fast but more importantly b/c I showed God I was serious about hearing from him he answered me:cry:  and gave me peace at a time when chaos was all around me! That was years ago but I have not forgotten what it felt like to KNOW God was listening. Like Angelicus said, don't beat yourself up. There are no failed tests in God. Instead he does give plenty of make-up exams. In fact, you will have to take the same test over and over again until you pass. He loves you too much to promote you when he knows you are not ready for the next level. Here is the info on the book. It talks about fasting for your blood type. It costs under $10. If that doesn't work, check it out at the local library.

Don't beat yourself up. Just pray about it and keep going.

For future reference you could try fasting from things besides food. That works as well. :yep:

Amen!!!

This is a fine example of God meeting us where we are .... :yep: Thank you Lord for your Mercy.

Fasting is an act of faith and obedience. You are trusting God to sustain you during that time of sacrifice. You would be better off if you if you treat it like a faith assignment and start small and gradually build yourself up until you are stronger and more able to resisting temptation.

It took me several slip ups before I managed to get a 7 day fast under my belt. Then it took several more slip ups before I could do a 10 day fast and so on & so forth. It takes time, equip yourself with as much knowledge about how to fast & keep trying. God will honor your tries & multiply your successes.
