Extended/Temporary locks

This I think seems to be a new rave in Uganda, ladies are temporarily locking there hair for 6-months to a year. This stylist claims the technique used stops the hair from locking.

I can't see how the interlocking method prevents your hair from locking. And I can imagine take down to be a nightmare, no matter how long they were kept in.
