Im speechless. I went and grabbed all my shampoo and products what do you know.Every last one of them contain these chemicals. So they say sodium sulfate actually breaks down the hair. What in the world do I use now for shampoo. I was in love with my nexxus. This makes me want to rethink my whole product junkie lifestlye. Im working so hard to keep my strands in top shape but using products that work against me. anyone know shampoos that do not contain harmful substances please list ingredints cuz im checking now.

 Eroding hair, causing asthma attacks and lowering sperm count? WTH are these companies doing to us? And it's all just to save a buck :nono:

OP, I use CON (green label) poo and it doesn't contain SLS. I just ran out last week, so I don't have the ingredients on me, but I know for sure it doesn't have SLS in it, and it's the bomb!

The organix line doesn't as well as avalon naturals. There's a list floating around here somewhere with lots of non sls poos that I *think* gymfreak compiled in her vitamin list. I remember reading the list when I first joined. I'll see if I can find it.

ETA:I can't seem to find it-well I found the updated vitamin list but the SLS free poo is not there and maybe wasn't included in the original one either. Now I can't remember where I saw it for certain:spinning: If I come across it, I'll try to remember to post the link unless somebody beats me to it.

I use Aveda DR poo. Ingredients are:

water, alfalfa leaf powder, linseed seed extract, sodium methyl cocoyl taurate, babassuamidopropyl betaine, disodium cocoglucoside citrate, sodium chloride, dimethicone, glyceryl oleate, cocoglucosside, hydrogenated lecithin, hippophae rhamnoides oil, fusanus spicatus wood oil, olive fruit oil, barley extract, quinoa seed extract, phellodendron amurense bark extract, dehydroxanthan gum, stearic acid, potassium stearate, frangrance, linalool, citronellol, limonene, polyquaternium-10, laureth-4, laureth-23, glycerine, sodium gluconate, citric acid, potassium sorbate, benzoic acid, methylchloroisothiazolinone, methylisothiazolinone, annato

There are other natural shampoos available, and there is even an Auyervedic powder, Aritha or soap nut, that you can mix and prepare at home. Please don't panic, though. We live in a chemical world, and although you might try to be as "natural" as possible, you are going to eat, drink, inhale, and touch chemicals that are part of that world. If you have any particular sensitivities, though, I suggest you consult a N.A.E.T. pratictioner (www.naet.com) so that you can have that sensitivity/allergy totally eliminated. HTH

I'm sure there's a study somewhere that says drinking plain filter water will kill you. That's just the kind of society we live in. :ohwell: Personally my hair hates just about all shampoos (SLS or no SLSs). I use them sparingly. To cleanse my hair I use ayurvedics or plain ol' SLS-free conditioner.

okay so i just checked my shampoos and the following checked out okay:

Envia hydrating ( natural)
Aveda Dr ( natural)
CON gren label ( natural)
AO Honeysuckle rose! (natural)

Shampoo in itself can be damaging and that's why alot of people pre-poo.

Great info. that is why i have let go totally of commercial shampoos. that is also including what ppl call herbal shampoos from india. they have sls and sles in them. it is fragrance and chemical colors. i use powders only. time consuming yes, messy hell yes.. but my hair is much better now.

Om Tat Sat

I will remember this when I buy new shampoo. I'm not going to toss what I have now but I won't buy more. Luckily I'm mostly co washing so I have cut back shampoo using like crazy. This bottle I have now will take me forever to get rid of. I don't remember the article saying at what percentage these chemicals become harmful because at a high enough percentage any chemical becomes harmful. Antyway I will definitely do away with my sls shampoo after it's empty.

Thanks for the post. I've discovered that my hair absolutely hates shampoo. The stupid thing is I would wash with TWO WASHINGS TO MAKE SURE IT WAS CLEAN. And I made sure that I used enough so that I could get a good lathering. Dummy!!!!!!

After doing research on dry hair, I realized that unless you work in a coal mine, your hair is NOT that dirty. I still used shampoos once or twice a week until I figured out that my hair will not tolerate it. This year I have significantly cut down on shampoos because many do not help. You might as well go into the kitchen and use dishwashing liquid. Now I use shampoo only when I relax and every couple of months to clarify IF I don't think the ACV is helping. I use ION Purifying Solutions Clarifying Shampoo. My eventual goal is to do away with all shampoos.

Awww ISH:angry2: Just when i thought I found the prefect Shampoo:wallbash:....I guess it will just be baking soda and plain water this year for me....Thanks:yep:

Shampoo has always made my hair hard or tangle. I stopped using shampoo a while ago and just used shikai bar. Now I only co-wash with cleansing conditoners. The only time shampoo is used on my hair is when I get a touch-up (every 12-16 weeks).

Scientists will always find something that is carogenic or bad for us in some way. How else are they going to make money and get promotions?! Luckily My KeraCare Detangling shampoo still doesn't seem too bad! I LOVE IT so far. It makes my hair sooo soft and managable! I also bought that Humecto...I'm hoping it's as good too! ...It better be for $20....or we're gonna have some probs

Thanks to you ladies and lurking on Sereca's fotki I actually find using the ayurvedics better for my hair and pocket...

Funney thing is Im not all that into naturalness. Im just thinking like with all the measures I take to be kind to my hair its alarming to find out im actually not being kind at all. I will continue to perm my hair. But the more unnessary damage I can eliminate , aand will.

Question what if I just rinse the He$#5 out of my hair with no shampoo after pre pooing on wash days. whatayah think?

One thing im not going to do is throw out my products that has that ingredient in it. :nono:I've been using my products, for years now and haven't experienced any effects mentioned on the website provided. (probably because I don't wash my hair everyday). Particular things don't effect everyone the same way (as many of us know). But, it is good to know these things.

Im sitting here thinking about it . Lets say im well invested in the products department. Im thinking of taking a hiatus and letting my hair tell me what it thinks.

This makes me :nono: Darn it I thought I was on to something with my herbal poos. I'll reform when my large stash is depleted:spinning:. Anybody know if this includes the shikakai shampoo bar?

Those chemicals may not kill me but I was having really bad allergic reactions to some of them.
And that can happen over prolonged use.
