What exactly is this vitamin for ? Has anyone here ever used to it soften your new growth? I am thinking of combining it along with my MSM. Do the 2 go together?
Any advice on this vitamin would be greatly appreciated
EPO is an essential fatty acid. You can take with anything, but remember that it's still a fat, so don't take too much. EPO is Omega 3 fatty acids. Cod Liver Oil is Omega 6. I just bought a liquid form of the essential fatty acids--a combination of Omega 3, 6, 9, Rosemary oil, Flaxseed Oil and Sage. The product is called Essential Fatty Acids for women. You can either take 1 tbs in the morning and 1 at night. Since flaxseed upsets my stomach, I decided to just add the oil in my spray bottle, along with some distilled water and a little olive oil. I spray directly on my scalp and some on my hair to moisturize. I take EPO and CLO in capsule form, but only 1 a day.
EPO is also terrific for the skin. If you have capsules, break one and just apply to dry skin areas.
Ohhh thanks a lot for responding.
My hair buddy was telling me that she thinks if softens her new growth a bit to make it more manageble. I do not take that many vitamins, but I was thinking of something I could combine along with my MSM to have uniformity throughout my new growth. I went to the VS website to check out there EPO and I saw that it has 5 calories from fat, the 500mg.
I don't take the EPO capsules very often but I do apply the EPO directly to my hair. Generally I use it after I wash my hair. I add it to the cones I apply after my leave in conditioner. This makes my hair soft, shiny and very manageable. I also apply a small bit directly to my new growth when it starts to become difficult to manage.
Hi,
Taking it as a vitamin is ok, but I have never done this for an extended time. It can make your breasts swell and I can do without that!!
Take care,
G
BTW I am going to buy a Multi-oil from GNC it has "Multi-Oil blends a combination of Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids, from fish, flax seed, wheat germ, evening primrose, borage and black currant" . I hope it works !
It also reduces cramps during your menstrual cycle, now, back to the breast swelling-how temporary is this? Does the effect wear off when the body becomes more used to it? If you take it everyday, can the breasts swell even more? Yall please don't give me false hopes

Evening primrose oil contains "good fat" and ingesting it, even in large quantities, will not contribute to weight gain, clogged arteries, etc. I've taken it in pill and liquid form and actually prefer the latter, as 1/2 teaspoon provides more than twice the amount of gamma-linolenic acid (the important fatty acid in EPO) than one 1300 mg "horsepill." I also take my flaxseed oil in liquid form (1 tbsp/day). It contain 14 g of fat per serving . . . like olive oil, it is a good fat which will do more good for your health (lower bad cholesterol levels for one) than bad (won't clog arteries,etc.). Then, there's fish oil . . .
Taking all or some combination of these will contribute to softer, silkier hair and skin. EPO also helps immensely (or at least has helped me immensely) with PMS (no more bloating, minimal cramping). Unfortunately, I have not experienced the swollen breast phenomenon though.
Anyway, in summary, not all fat is bad. We need fat. I love fat . . . the good kind of course. Carbs, however, are another story . . .
I don't know if others have experienced this, but every time I take Evening Primrose Oil, I get large pimples!! I know that pimples are not thought to be correlated to the oil you eat, but I think since EPO does something to your hormone balance (estrogens) it adversely affects my skin. I NEVER get zits. Yet, every time I try the EPO again (I've tested 3 or 4 times) I get huge ones.
I told my mom, and she said that it happens to her too. I only take cod liver oil now.
This has been a very informative thread. L.Mo based on your experiences I think I'm going to pass on the evening primrose oil. I'm very acne prone. Maybe I will try the cod liver oil instead.
I still trying to figure out if it is the EPO that gave me the pimples. I going to experiment one more time this week to see if I get bumps and if so my EPO days are over.

Wow! I have noticed my breasts would swell but never could understand why. I do notice that it does make my new growth so much more managable and soft.
I have heard that the EPO effects hormones in a positive way. It may be like other medications though where you have to take it for a few weeks in order for the side effects (pimples) to go away.
I think I am also breaking out from EPO...I only took it for 1 day and I broke out. Maybe I will try putting it in my Orange Juice. I just love this board!
