ESSENCE/JADA/& 1 MS. ADAMS

On the "your letters" page of the August issue of Essence magazine one Sharice Adams writes: I would have loved to see Jada with her own hair rather than with the flowing locks that are featured on the June cover. She has always looked glamorous with shorter styles, especially the natural crop. And I think the shorter hairstyles do her more justice than the one that was chosen for this issue.

To which the editor replied: Sharice, that is Jada's own hair. For our June cover shoot, Jada arrived at the studio with her shoulder length natural hair pulled back in a single braid. We immediately fell in love with her easy new look and simply released her hair and went with the flow.

If Ms. Adams doesn't believe that's Jada's hair she should come join the LHCF! We have non celebs with hair that length!

So that really is Miss Jada's hair, huh?? I'm impressed. Even though she was out of the limelight for a looong time, it still seems like she got a whole lot of growth in just a little bit of time. She must have been taking real good care of her hair and not doing much trimming!!

Ain't that the truth!

I saw an old episode of "A Different World" last week and she had her hair down. It was past her shoulders and had the same texture as the magazine. It was just as beautiful then as it is now.

I think that like Alicia Keys, Jada wore braids way back when as a protective style.

It is absolutely gorgeous.

Shoulder length? So is it safe to say the almost waist length hair is extensions?

That's what I thought. The hair in the photos is much longer than shoulder length. I love the look either way, but I'm confused by what they meant.

Her response now makes no sense at all. They simply released her braid and went with the flow???

Re: ESSENCE/JADA/& 1 MS. ADAMS

Essence is probably lying. I am sure Jada has indeed grown out her hair, but she probably had some "help" for the photo shoot. I doubt they took her hair out of a cornrow and just let it flow.

Jeez Crysdon, girl you had me thinking I read and wrote wrong! But I just checked and that's what the editor said. Maybe the way the braid was done? Then they took it down? Who knows -- I do believe it's her hair though.

i mean technically say yor hair is in a braid it is a tad bit shorter..then you get it straightened washed and blown it is a tad bit longer...all in all it still looks good..plus we know LHCF memebers with hair like that so..we know its possible....

Hmmm... if the editor said she had shoulder length hair... wait let me read the lead post again. "...natural shoulder length hair pulled back in a braid..." well alrightee than, there is no braid that i've ever seen that would stretch so long as that

. Unless the editor prints a retraction to clarify, it appears as if Ms. Smith was sporting some extensions. Either way, it was GORGEOUS

Re: ESSENCE/JADA/& 1 MS. ADAMS

what I got from what she said was NATURAL shoulder lenght
her natural hair is very curly, therefore if it was shoulder lenght in its natural state, after they blowdried and straighten its possible for her hair to be that long.

Re: ESSENCE/JADA/& 1 MS. ADAMS

When was the Matrix Reloaded filmed? Her hair seemed pretty short in those Bantu Knots. If it is her hair, I am happy for her.

Dang! I didn't catch that! It is confusing...

My guess is 2001 or 2002. Most movies are filmed a year or two before they are released.

Allandra thanx for the pic. That is def. not shoulder length hair. That's my second goal, bra strap, I'm shoulder length now. The editor is very confusing.

I KNEW IT!! PEOPLE KEEP TRYING TO TELL ME IT WAS WEAVE BUT GIRL JUST TOOK CARE OF HERSELF! YOU GO JADA!!

. . . my bad for yelling let me calm down.

Re: ESSENCE/JADA/& 1 MS. ADAMS

I'm the only one on this board that does not believe that all that hair is home grown???? I mean, I know I can be a cynic, but somebody help me out.............

Re: ESSENCE/JADA/& 1 MS. ADAMS

Guys don't forget what some people consider shoulder length varies. BTW, I'm looking right now at the issue, pg 153 which is a full length pic, her hair (very wavy) is clearly resting on her shoulders. She looks great. Her look is definitely more refined these days.

No, i don't think you are the only one. Here's my example, my older sister has natural hair and at times she's put her hair back in one braid, it appears a little past her shoulders (not shoulderlength which means the end of her braid would be hitting her shoulder), but when she has it blown out it is NOT anywhere near the length that jada is sporting. I, personally, am waiting for the editor to correct herself because it doesn't look possible for a shoulderlength braid - i don't care how thick - to go beyond her bra like that...

Re: ESSENCE/JADA/& 1 MS. ADAMS

I don't think non hair care obsessors (oops I mean hobbyists) use bra strap. When I tell people that I can't wait until my hair is bra strap thay are like what's that. then I have to explain, that it means where the clasp is.
