Ends - splits - why?

Need your help ladies:

Since I began lurking here in June I've started taking better care of my natural 4-something hair by developing a reggie which currently includes:

-Daily moisture and sealing
-COwashing every couple of days
-DC twice a week usually with AO HSR/GBP or both with oils
-Coffee rinsing for the last couple of weeks

My hair has been in box braids or canerows (on own hair) for at least 2/3 months. I usually PS but have a bit down in the front which I find myself dusting every couple of days. Now despite using no heat, I find that my hair has splits almost on a daily basis!!!

What am I doing wrong, or what could I be doing better to stop this?

TIA!

I'm bumping with you cause it seems that despite my no direct heat regimen (only when deep conditioning) I still have raggedy ends (splits and knots) :wallbash:

I dont think anyone's hair can be 100% split free. Like sistaslick says 'our hair isnt titanium steel' :yep:

But in your case, dusting every couple seems a bit unusual. Hair isnt supposed to split like THAT, ya know?

I'm sorry I have no advice, but I hope you find your answer dear.

Thanks lexi84, I hope I find an answer soon too - I wonder if I may be doing too much, I love cowashing often especially while I'm in braids, but I'm beginning to wonder if my hair is trying to say its too much manipulation...

I think that may be it. Maybe reduce a few things. Also, if your hair doesn't like the products you are using, that can dry out your hair and ends, thus causing splits.

I would definitely say it's the manipulation. For me: manipulation, my Denman brush (though it gets rid of splits, it does cause more), and using too many products. I have stopped doing so much to my hair, keeping it in twists, sticking with one line (Hairveda), and ceasing use of my Denman. I think about my niece's and brother's hair. They leave their hair ALONE and they have no splits!! None!! My brother does not eat right, but he does drink tons of water a day. He has what I call Barbie doll hair :) I've started to examine my diet, health, etc.

I try to use quality products now (though Miss Jessies does rock my world). I have an Ayurvedic routine that is working wonders for me and my supplements are helping (msm, biotin, zinc, vitamin B-12, and vitamin C). Compared to June when the splits began (and after trimming 2.5 inches), my hair is doing well :yep:
