sounds like an issue of moisture retention. are you:

-not letting your ends touch your clothing & using a silk pillowcase or scarf.
-oiling your ends lightly with something like castor oil, jojoba or a creme like olive oil creme. Braiding or bunning and tucking your ends.
-a deep conditioner and start applying conditioner at the ends. you might need a really good deep conditioner especially with the weather being so harsh.
-are you taking any supplements?

Hey suri
thanks for replying.
-not letting your ends touch your clothing & using a silk pillowcase or scarf.
I wear a bun 100% of the time. and have a silk pillow and wear a silk scarf also

-oiling your ends lightly with something like castor oil, jojoba or a creme like olive oil creme. Braiding or bunning and tucking your ends.
yes i use an oil based cream for my ends...in fact my whole hair and it feels lovely just looks bad.

-a deep conditioner and start applying conditioner at the ends. you might need a really good deep conditioner especially with the weather being so harsh.
i always apply conditioner to my ends first and always use leave it on my hair for the duration of my shower and then rinse out.

-are you taking any supplements?
yup
biotin (though only a minimal amount) and silica i eat plenty of oily fish and fruit and veg ...in fact i believe i have a very good diet

i just dont know what it is.

You may want to try a capful of porosity control or nexxus ensure targeted on your ends and rinse in cool water, then continue with your normal routine. PC is cheaper than Nexxus but they do the same thing. I'm not partial to the smell of PC but it does serve wonderful purpose.

The other thing you may want to look at is how you're bunning. Even though I do a ghetto bun:lol: I still have to be careful with the ends. So what I do is use a small squirt of carefree curl gold on the last 2 inches of my hair then tuck my hair in its bun. (i use cute scrunchies so most people can't tell whats up anyway)

It could just be weather related. Not sure whats its like in england but I'm on the east coast of the US and its dry dry DRY! which isn't much help but, again that means a little added moisture to the ends would probably not be a bad idea.

Hey
you know i think it may be the way i am bunning.
I asked this before and was told to use a silk/satin scrunchie which i do but i always feel that my ends are "rubbed" when i put my scrunchie in.
I just do a regular twisted bun..it looks kinds ghetto too!! lol
where can i get porosity control from (online).
the weather here is bizarre rite now sunny in the am freexing at night and then snowing during the day...if i go out its always covered with a silk scarf.
thanks for the advice..oh whats the curl gold stuff for?

thanks

Soft Sheen Carlson Carefree Curl Gold

This you don't have to use much of, its also nearly oil free. Even though its a curl activator, its really effective in holding in moisture. You just don't have to use too much of it.

Revlons Roux Porosity Control Conditioner (thats the new bottle)

I don't doubt you could find either of these at a beauty supply store. The carefree curl gold I've only gotten at my local drug store so I'm a little unsure if they have it in england (its worth a shot though!)

I'm no expert on buns, but maybe it is the bun? Or maybe even what you are using to tie your bun up with? If it is something cotton, the cotton may be absorbing whatever you are putting on your ends.

I used to wear a bun years ago, but I had to stop. My first 7 inches of hair looked nice but the ends I kept "bunned" was a mess! It was from the shape of my hair up in the bun. Maybe you should try clipping your ends up with a claw or a banana clip.

Thanks Arcadian i will have a look for this here failing that i'll get my partner to bring it when hes here in a couple of weeks...thanks again!

I agree about the bun. I recently switched from a bun to a low, single braid just to give my ends and the bun area a break. I tuck the ends under and secure it with a bobby pin.

Credit for this goes to goldensugar23, but do try applying coconut oil to yur ends and wrapping your hair with a conditioning silk scarf every night.

I hate the you can't use the bagie method. :ohwell: It's really been working in my best interest. But anyway, I use the Bed Head Ego Boost Split end sealer. It's done a great job on my split ends. Kinda pricy...but it works. :yep:

ive used or at least tried to do the baggie a couple of times but whole lengths of my hair fall out for no reason..well i guess cuz my hair is damp.
will this stuff work on hair that doesnt have split ends...i dont have split ends...they just look rough...
thanks though i will try this...my friends works at a TIGI salon so i can get it discounted...yay!!!

thanks

I'd say clarify. There are many recipes floating around, but I use Ion Purifying Treatment from Sally's Beauty Supply. My hair feels very course and hard when it has mineral deposits or product buildup.

I would agree with those who say is probably the way you're bunning. Because I'm cutting off that part of my hair anyway, I'm not always careful about the way I bun. I used to carefully coat my scrunci with evoo or carrot oil and bun my rollerset braidout with coated bobby pins. Now I just pull the bun into a cotton type scrunci. I was looking at my hair last night and I can see that the last 2" of my hair are wirey and all over the place--I know that's because of HOW I'm bunning my hair. Be careful to protect your ends from your bun--make sure the ends stay smooth and moisturized within the bun--otherwise, you can frizz your ends.

I agree with clarifying...maybe there is product buildup...my ends was feeling awful a week ago and I did an ACV rinse and now my ends feel alot better.

I use wave nouveau moisturizing lotion for moisturizing my ends and it's been working great for me.

Nah, you don't have to have split ends to use it. I'm using it on my daughter's hair and it just keeps it moist. I use it on my hair to keep the split ends from coming back. I shol wish I had a friend that worked at the Tigi Salon. As much money as I have spent on their products in tha past week alone is murder on my pockets! :ohwell:

ok so any ideas opn how to bun correctly and not damage my ends???
links? pics?
pls

thanks everyone for your advice...i was so close to waist length now im going to have to chop it off!!

*cry*

I am going out on a limb with the correct bunning method to say that maybe you should use a stocking cap or a silk scarf to create your bun.

Start a thread about bunning, lol maybe you will get a response.

I truly think the weather may have a part in it. Also you said it's just your ends and that they 'look' dry. I need a picture you know we all have a case of hair self-esteem, maybe ur seeing something that's not there.

But just in case do an overnight amla, take sareca's advice and clarify, give yourself a deep deep deep conditioner with steam if possible, oil your hair with jojoba, olive, coconut oil and bun using nothing but your hair, no tools. And start taking cod liver oil, flaxseed oil, or evening primrose oil for about 2 weeks and see what happens.

How often do you wash? Condition? basically what is your regimen?

Hey Suri
thanks.
i use a silk scrunchi as is but my main let down is HOW to actually do the bun i basically bun like a bantu knot...maybe not the best way...
im going to take ure advice and start a thread. lol
i will clarify but im scared last time i did it took me weeks to get my hair back to get my hair back to normal...it was stripped bare with clarifying!!
I iwll do a deep deep deep condition lmao...this weekend i will get to the steam room at the gym and stay there for an hour if i have to! lol
i have a really simple regime
i c/o wash with pantene black hair conditioner about 4 times a week and leave it on whilst i shower. then i apply pantene oil replacement therpay cream all over esp the ends and bun up whilst about 95% dry.

wrap a silk scarf around it and im done!

i realise that i dont deep deep condition at all...well i guess the c/o washes dont count.
i have some avocado and coconut oil and i will do that this weekend.

thanks girls!

Regarding the clarifying-- I know what you mean, I co-wash and I'm fraid to shampoo or clarify for that matter cuz i'm scared my hair will be stripped too.

your routine isn't bad, but I would try switching your conditioner, it always helps to switch up every few months or so, as your hair may not respond to that conditioner anymore. A few good suggestions from personal experience and I am 3c/4a--- keracare humecto, mane n tail, and the dominican conditioners like 10 en 1, j/a/s/o/n/'s biotin, and cholesterol cream conditioners.

Yeah try a deep conditioner, it may be all you need, plus if it's cold in the UK which I am sure it must be, keep your hair tucked in AT ALL TIMES :) gl!

How about giving ACV (Apple Cider Vinegar) a try?
My hair never feels stripped when I do this...it always comes out soft...and clean at the same time...

I usually do this after I shampoo...right b4 I conditon.
