Hello cousins.
My laptop died (I am a bit of a computer geek, and trust, it is goooooooone, never to be recucitated again) last Thursday, and I'm actively not writing my final paper right now, so I'm posting htis a bit later than I planned, and the truth is I really should be doing this at all, but I don't listen to my own reason. I finally updated my fotki too.
So, I self-relaxed with the Alter Ego Linange line on November 30th. I wanted to go ahead and learn to do it myself since I can't find nayone who uses the line here, and the stylists I trust relaxing my head refuse to take it. Which is fine... they just won't be getting my money now, especially once I buy a dryer, because I can roller set up a storm now.
Anyway, I will start with comp pics of when I first began my journey in June of 2008 and November of 2009:
I took the first picture in a mirror, which is why it's reversed.
I got 2 trims this summer because the first was horrific and the second was equally ridiculous (as my usual stylist looked like she was about to slap this lady, the woman just trimmed my hair arbitrarily... mostly even, but my hair had a little bend to it and she was grabbing the hair exactly as she should have, but I just didn't really care at the time (bad day). Now I care.
So I will get a really good small trim in either late December here, or a really serious one in April (big difference in time, I know) in Baltimore, and then just small trims thereafter.
Reminders of earlier in the year:
Okay, and here are all the new updates:
I was about 4 weeks post. I flat ironed on damp to wet hair. I use a Solia. Excuse the shirt. I was on my way to a particular party.
I didn't do much during this month but a twist out and putting my hair up in this strange way.
Nothing but this bun in November. I was air drying 3 out of 4 weeks and just pulling my hair back into buns with hair ties and clips during October and November as I was getting further into my stretch, and it was the longest I'd stretched before. Plus my semester has been a mess. I just didn't have the mental or physical energy to do much else.
Yay!!!! So It wasn't the best job, but I still have my hair on my head, so I consider it a success. Next time I will take it easy basing my nape, and I may process longer (I processed for 55 minutes and I am still underprocessed in some areas. That's what I wanted, but that was soooooo long.) I processed for around 60 minutes with Silk Elements and Motions, Nariobi, Design Essentials, and everything else back in the day, and now I realize it wasn't neglect on my mother and stylists part! (Once I was processed for 80+ minutes because I went to a salon that didn't have a strong enough relaxer for me here. The stylist was looking at me and my hair like we were crazy and KEPT asking me whether or not I was burning and was I sure. That hair was always a little underprocessed. You can see where it reaches the rest of my hair down the shaft...)
Okay, I am rambling. This is what my new growth was like before I relaxed:
These is what my hair looked like while I was air drying and damp:
The center of my nape is a looser texture, and significantly finer, so it came out much more processed, while the perimeter of my nape was more of the way I want it, so I have space for overlapping (inevitable) as I continue to self-relax.
That's a glimpse of it after it finished air drying.
Okay, and this is after I finally flat ironed 3 days later:
Excuse my forehad; I was trying out a new foundation.
The spot in the center of my nape where I had the chemical burn still has pretty wispy hairs and I can still see the scar faintly, but everything else is pretty much back to its hairy state I used to despise.
That is all!
It was a lot, wasn't it?
