I was looking at my hair and thought to myself "what the he11 am I doing?" It seemed as though it was at an absolute standstill. Thank God for progress tracking because I'm starting to get serious hair anorexia (not to mention that terrible dream of my hair coming out in clumps due to my PJism :look:); I did retain some length (about 2.5-3 inches), but I had to trim so once again I'm steadily hovering over bsl *sigh*. Why won't my hair just drop that 1 d@mn inch :wallbash: Oh well, here are some pics

All progress is good! definitely doing better than some of us! but i keep thinking the same thing. setbacks, trims, cuts, always tantalizingly close to bsl, but not quite!

Good luck on your retention,it may not be where yu want it to be...but it is a start...might i add, stop trimming your hair,I can attest that I started to retain major length once I topped trimming/cutting...just some friendly advice:look::yep:

How are you disappointed in your gorgeous hair? I just don't understand you.:nono:

You need a good :spank: Your progress is praiseworthy! You need to stop watching the boiling pot or timing it and just enjoy your hair. Why does time even come into the picture when people are checking length? Point is, you have made progress and your hair didn't grow long and all stringy but stayed full, has a healthy shine--just simply beautiful. So snap out of it chicca!

Your hair is so thick, healthy and shiny. I understand the disappointment, I have seen people here who went from APL to WL in one year, and they have me wondering too. But your progress is praiseworthy, just appreciate what you have going!

Don't be disappointed. You still have made progress and it looks nice. Just keep taking care of it and put it out of your mind and before you know it, you'll see the progress you want. I like your wash and go pic too:yep:. I see more progress by trying not to focus too much on my hair outside of diligently taking care of it. I will drive myself crazy measuring & taking pictures all of the time like some people do. Not to mention that's not really how I prefer to spend my free time. I am leaning towards trimming less as Patiencevirtue has stated.

Thanks you guys...it's just that sometimes when I come on here I see women with beautiful heads of hair that's grown from shoulder to BSL in practically less than a year, I'm like, where the hell is MY progress. I've been growing my natural hair in since Spring 05 (when I started my transition) and it has almost been 4 years. I've known people who've grown waistlength hair in that time, ya know :ohwell: I'm just wondering what am I doing wrong? I'm only 5'2 so it's not like a have long ways to go.

You're not doing anything wrong. You're not other people. I've been here since 2003 and I am at shoulder length. Granted I've had setbacks but you won't hear me moaning about not being at waistlength yet. I don't let other people's progress blind me to the baby steps I'm making. You need to stop trying to keep up with others. Make you your only competition and focus on the strides you alone are making. When you get to waist-length with a nice thick mane (not those stringy ones that make you almost pity the owner), it won't matter how long it took to get there.

You have such pretty hair though, it may not be the length you want it to be but good lawd is it nice!

Yeah! Keep it up you have had good progress and hair grows sometime in spurts but the biggest progress is not to give up because eventually with continual consistency your hair will take off growing. Keep a healthy diet which is big role and hair growth.

I agree with everyone else. Your hair is beautiful! Just keep up the good reggie and enjoy what you have until you get what you want. This is how I try to live my life (not just my hair care life), and I'm much happier overall. Great progress, and keep up the good work!

Co-signing with the comments made upthread.

Kblc, your hair is healthy, obviously happy and it's beautiful. Looks to me like you're doing everything right!

Make sure you take good care of your ends and try to stay away from those scissors!

Chin-up sis! :rosebud:

I coudlnt thank you enough for saying that. I need to hear that myself.

OP, I think you've made great progress. You should be very proud.:yep:

Girl I feel you, only you know your hair best and I feel I'm in that same spot. I just can't reach bsl. Trying too, but keep coming up short. Be blessed on your hair care journey, and keep striving. After all, it is just hair....

Thanks Nonie. You know..you're right look at my previous pics from 06-07, I have made great progress (when I BC the back portion of my hair in 12/05 it was 2.5 inches long now its 10). It just seems that if I can just make it BSL, I KNOW that my hair can grow to longer lengths ya know.......I would've proven it to myself. My hair hasn't been that long in several years, I would feel as though I've finally arrived

eta: LynnieB (long time no see lol), I keep having to trim because I get these God-awful splits and knots. I NEVER had splits like this when I was relaxed. I don't use a lot of direct heat (at max 6-8x a year, I keep my hair protected, but sometimes I want to enjoy it and wear out and curly. Then it wraps around itself and tangles. I swear I can't take my hair no where. If it even thinks a comb is coming near it splits, if I don't moisturized 50 billion times a day it splits, if I casually talk about it in conversation IT SPLITS. And not just little splits, I'm talking about tree branches 5 inches up the shaft *sigh*. Now that its completely split free I'm going to treat it like silk and buy new combs to see if that helps....maybe my porosity is off or something. Sometimes I wonder if its to fragile too grow as long as I hope....
