Does anyone own an electric pressing comb?? I'd like to hear some reviews on how well these get roots straight.

I have an old school electric one that I love:love:, but apparently so do all of my friends because I loaned it to one person and it has been floating around my college campus ever since. My room mate bought a new one, and I hate it. I could get the same results from a cool flat iron. It could just be she got a bad one, but I think that they just don't make them how they used to:nono:

I bought a gold n hot one from sallys a few weeks ago. Its really good. I use it for my roots and edges and I maxiglide the rest. I was looking for a ceramic one but I couldnt find it and I was too impatient to get it online so I got that one from Sallys.

Oooh! I'm going to get one, too!

Just wondering, though -- how often do you ladies use it? Don't want to damage my hair with too much heat!

I have one, and I LOVE it. When I bother to use it, it does a wonderful job of getting my roots straight. I don't use it often though...maybe once every 3-6 months because I rarely want my hair that straight, but that comb definitely does the trick when combined with my ceramic flat iron.

I've had one used on my hair when I was a kid and my hair basically went "poof" not less than 10 minutes after it was done. It could be that the setting was not high enough but because of that experience I'm not keen on using one again.

What brand is yours??

In my experience, a flat iron works much better. I have both, and I rarely use the comb. It takes much longer to get the hair straight because I have to use much smaller pieces. It's the back of the comb (the flat surface) that actually straightens my hair so it's much easier and quicker to use the flat iron (which has two flat surfaces).

Disclaimer: I'm a natural, so maybe the comb will do ok for a relaxed head that only needs to straighten the roots, but I have tried it a few times to straighten the roots after a tight roller set without much luck. Better Luck to You!

The PJ is peeking out from amongst the shadows

I have a friend that uses one of these when she is getting post relaxer and needs a boost.

My main question is: CAN THESE DAMAGE HAIR???

If they don't, I'm just thinking about how many more weeks post relaxer I could go using it in between stretches.

In my research, I see the Gold'N'Hot is ceramic w/heat contol.

I also see another one (I found on Amazon) is ceramic & cheaper, but I can't remember the name of it & cheaper isn't always better. It had heat control as well.

I found other electric combs, but they are brass, and I guess that's ok for natural hair (I'm going off of when I had natural hair- that was the best type of hot comb to have then), but I'm not sure about relaxed hair. There was also no way to controll the heat.

I also found one made of 'metal' whatever that is, and it was cheap-looking, with no way to control the heat..

So to me, the GNH is the best one bcuz it's ceramic w/the heat control.

Me too. My mom used to blowdry my hair out and then use the hot comb. Within twenty minutes it was poofy again.

Hhhhmmm...I am interested to know more about this. My stylist uses a pressing comb and it works wonders, but it's a FLAMING HOT old school one with a stove. My hair does not revert afterwards unless I'm working out.

What do yall think caused the reversion? Heat/humidity? Did you play around alot (possibly sweating out the hair) afterwards since you were a kid? Or maybe it was a combo of the comb and the products used?

Anyone had problems with poofiness with an electric comb?
