Electric or Stove top Pressing comb?

Which one is easier to use and which one straightens better? I am going to try to press my own hair for my day and I cant seem to get it right when I flat iron?

Which one should I use?

My stylist used the "stove top" one on my roots with excellent results. My hair stayed straight for an entire week in Florida!

I like stove top when someone else is pressing my hair. But when I do it on my own, I use the electric one. But stove top straightens best to me.

I do the stove top pressing and I am able to get my hair silky straight.

There is nothing better than that over the stove heat!!! You also get the extra shine with it too. But I'm sure the electric one is better for your hair. Because it can only get so hot.

I'm just deathly afraid of those hot combs. At least with a flat iron I've never burned myself. I got a hot comb to the back of the neck once and that was IT for me!

I bought an electric one I got from Sally's and it gets smokin hot. I have not used again since being natural yet though.

I prefer a gas stove over electic stove too...my hair broke off using an electic stove...

I prefer the stove top pressing comb. When ever it is used on my hair....silky, silky, silky results.

I used the stove top pressing comb today and liked the results. I can never get my edges this straight with a flight iron. I was afraid of burning my hair so I didn't let it get very hot. I ended up going over my hair with my sister's Chi on a low setting afterwards.

Stove top is the best for super duper straight hair, but when I used to use a pressing comb on my own I went with the electric because although it gets very hot, it doesn't get as hot as the stove one, and when I used the stovetop I singed some hair and got a little scared!
So since you're a beginner, I would suggest electric

I don't use either. I have too many bad memories of getting my hair pressed with both (mainly the stove pressing comb) growing up. My mother used to press my hair almosr every Sunday from age 2 or 3 to age 12. 50% of the time I received some type of burn.

For those that prefer stove-top, when you wash your hair do you notice any straight sections that do not revert back? If not, how do you prevent that from happening?

I would love to press my hair but I am afraid of it not reverting back to my natural texture.

Even though I have an electric that gets up to 500 degrees, I still say the stove top works better. I don't use either, but my stylist will hit my edges with her oven comb when I'm at the shop. If I had any kind of skills with the stove iron, I'd use it.

Electric is safer. I prefer stovetop. It gets the hair straighter.

All I can remember is my gold plug in one we had back in the day (like 10 yrs ago).

I remember having to get the gunk and grease off with a towel, my hair coming out like sticky strings still looking like the comb was running through it, and my scalp sizzling from grease. My momma telling me "Its not your scalp burning, the grease is just cooking. Puttin grease on my scalp before she straightened my hair... AHHHHH!

But Im gonna go buy an electric one from Sallys now that I know to NEVER use grease on my scalp or hair when I straighten, so hopefully Ill have better results. I cant get a stovetop one because I live in a dorm and well.. I dont have a stove erplexed Ill take what I can get

ETA: I only want one because I need something to work on my 4B kitchen when I do wear the rest of my hair straight.

I have an electric pressing comb, but I don't really know how to use it. Seems difficult to operate. I'll try again for my friend's wedding in early November, though.

I tried using an electric pressing comb once when my hair was relaxed and BSL and ending up dropping the comb on my bare skin about 3 times (I still have burns) I was thinking that maybe I could give it a try with the shorter hair but I went to the salon the other day and the stylist flatironed with a CHI and I love it so I am just going to keep going to her until I reach my goal and then buy my own CHI iron.

I can definately second that. Funny part was though when my ma did it she never burned me but our old stylist used to burn the he?? outta me with that dang straightening comb. Come to think of it the last time I got my hair professionally curled (about 3 wks ago) the dang stylists burned me with the curlers.

They go to school for this though huh erplexed?

You might want to try it, and use some heat protectant and detangle pretty good first.. I would start with low heat and work up because you really might not need that much heat.
I have found that my 4b part of my hair (my whole kitchen) really gets straight using this, whereas when I use my CHI on it... it just presses the kinks tighter together without making them straighter. Its flat, but not straight, and you can't comb it and it sticks out . But if I use a comb to detangle, hold the ends, then get in there with the pressing comb, it stays straight for at least a few days. I think your hair would come out pretty nice with it too

Don't give me no funny ideas now. I am 6 months post and not sure if I want to transition or stay texlaxed. This method may buy me a little more time if I can straighten without my hair looking like a hot mess
