I just bought some yesterday, and yes, it does smell awesome, but... I just can't figure out what else is SOOO great about it!! First of all, it's so thick! It seems like it would weigh my hair down something terrible...

I bought it because I was so tired of reading all the rave reviews about it. I felt like I was the only one not in on a big secret. Well, now that I'm in on it, I don't see the big deal!! I know that I just got it yesterday, so I definitely haven't given it a fair chance yet, but...

Will someone PLEASE tell me what is so great about this product, and also please detail how you use it??? It doesn't seem to give the hair shine, so do you use oils or something else along with it??

Thanks!!

Hey Lindy

(Boy does it feel good to be on the hair board again)

I too have the Mango Butter and am in the same boat as you. I cannot for the life of me figure out what is so great/or even how to incorporate this into my regimen.

I do remember someone saying that it works better if you add olive oil to it.

IMO it's a similar consistency to Mega Growth (Profectiv Yellow Tub) which works wonderfully. I guess I'll get round to using the Mango butter one day

When I use it on dry hair, I put it on my ends before I pin them up during the day. When my hair is wet, I spray it with Infusium 23 and put mango buter through my hair as a moisturizer. When my hair is done drying, the mango butter makes it nice and soft.

Hey LD!!

It's SO nice to see you back here on the board!! I definitely missed you!!

About the Mango Butter, OK; at least I know I'm not

... someone else feels the same way about it...

Lindy,

You're not alone, I recently purchased the mango butter, it looks thick, but it actually very light, however it's too light for my hair. I've used it a few times on dry hair and my hair didn't feel muchsofter or more moisturized after using it. Maybe I'm using it wrong?

I want to try the mango butter so badly. I need something thick; i currently use Vitapointe. It seems that it is actually light. Hmmm, i'm still gonna try it out.

Hi Islandgirl,

Like Emeraldsky said, it looks thick but it's actually very light. It's pretty good on wet hair. When I first bought the mango butter I wasn't very impressed with it and put it away for a couple of months. I just recently picked it up again and liked it much better the second time around.

Islandgirl if you are looking for something with a thick moisturising consistency I'd recommend either they yellow or pink tub of Profective

I agree... I practically ran out and bought it after hearing so many reviews and now it's just sitting on my sink collecting dust.... It doesn't do anything except smell good and it's to light. I bought some Profectiv Healthy Ends (the pink one) and it kind of reminds me of that but I like the Healthy ends better because it's heavier and I can use it kinda' like a gel to brush my hair back into the bun.

But I'm feeling you on the Mango butter... when I had braids I would but it on my hair line but that's about all I could figure out what to do with it.

nope Lindy, you're not the only one....It smells really good, and i would re-purchase based on the smell alone.., umm no i wouldn't
nuts.gif

I didn't find it especially moisturizing or anything, but i used it up.
I finished my tub and decided to try out a few other moisturizers and i've been at a dead end. The only thing that has come close is ORSolive oil moisturirizer mixed with more olive oil... and that's very heavy BTW

Hey Lindy & Hey LD (we missed u girl)
I agree I am not impressed with the Mango Butter either. Of course being the PJ that I am I purchased 2 containers of it....oh well....I will use it up and now I will just work with the moisturizers I have until they are all gone before I purchase any more....that could take until 2005

.

I will not purchase the Mango Butter again. Wet hair/dry hair it is a mediocre product on my hair!

Ahhh it's so nice to be missed

I'm glad I'm not the only one. I thought I was losing my mind when I tried this. It's just sitting on my bathroom shelf doing nothing and I paid a fiver for it as well
mad.gif
I'm gonna have to try and find some use for it but it will be difficult as I have moisturisers that work far better than this.

IslandGirl,
I also use Vitapointe. It's one of my staple products!
smile.gif
After trying the Mango Butter, I can tell you that in NO WAY does it make me wanna give my beloved Vitapointe!! That stuff is just perfect. It's light and makes my hair nice & shiny.

*edited to add*: OK NOW, Where oh where are all the Mango Butter LOVERS out there who prompted me to buy this product??!!! Hmmm... everyone has conveniently disappeared, huh??

I like mango butter, but it doesn't always work for me, most of the time it does. I like Vitapointe too. I was sleeping on it.... I had it and thought it didn't do so well at first... but my second try was more favorable

Hey IslandGirl, if you're looking for something thick, try the Profectiv moisturizer's... I use the Pink One(Healthy Ends) and it's really thick.. I like it because I wear my hair in a bun and it's heavy enough to get all my hair smoothed down with out gel.

Mango butter is light like Vitapointe. It didn't moisten my hair.

Lindy, I felt the same way about using the mango butter on dry hair. However, when I applied it to wet hair before roller set it worked wonders, not only was my hair shiny and soft but it even felt better, so maybe you can try it this way....

Happy growing....

It moisturized and softened my hair, but it is so light I had to use goo gobs of it! At $4-$5 for a 5 oz. jar it just isn't economical for me. It smells heavenly , though.
lick.gif
I smooth a little bit of it on just for the smell!

I mostly love the smell of it and it's definitely not as heavy as it looks. I've tried it on damp hair but not wet and have to agree that it works much better than on dry hair. I set my hair with it one night after misting my hair with water and the next day the curls were VERY soft. I'll have to try it on really wet hair next to see.

I have thick, thick hair and MB is just heavy enough to control it. I use it on damp/wet hair moistened with S-Curl or plain water. I use it when I slick my hair back and on my ends.

I find it works best when I use a leave-in spritz throughout my hair then use the MB to seal in that moisture. HTH!

I love it so much that I just ordered a case of it!
blush.gif
(It's extra sad 'cause I have six jars already...but I'm moving in August and don't know where/if I'll be able to buy more in Colorado.) On dry hair, I use it on my ends and on my "patch" of hair at the crown that grows 50x faster than anywhere else. After washing, I spray S-Curl on my hair and add the MB to my ends and let my hair airdry.

I love the stuff and it works great on my hair! I've had about 4" of growth since January using S-Curl, Mango Butter, Cream of Nature shampoo (yellow/green) and Motions Moisture Plus.

Lecaste!

What's up with you leaving St. Louis, girl? Not cold enough for ya?
laugh.gif
And I wanna know where you got a whole case from too!

Lindy, I agree with you. The smell is great but it's not working for me. I definitely prefer Profectiv.

LD- Welcome back!

OK thanks Ladies, that's better!! I'm going to try it on damp/wet hair and see if I like it any better.
smile.gif
I'm sure I'll find a use for it. If all else fails I'll use it for twist-outs, even though I already have (and like) Kiehl's Silk Groom for that purpose... this is just another product to add to my growing (and collecting dust) collection, I guess!!
smirk.gif

I just bought some of this stuff today just to use on ends. I think thats what it targets anyway. I tried it on my hair and I liked it 'cause it made my hair soft. But I wanna try the Profectiv. Where can you get that?

Hey Robin
wave.gif

Soslychic I don't know in the US exactly where you get profectiv products from, but you should be able to find them in any good black hair shop. To see the products go to

http://www.strengthofnature.com

These products are excellent. A lot of ladies (including myself) use these and have great results with them.

I agree LD... I bought a tub of the Profectiv Healthy Ends(pink) and I love it... It gets to sit on the top shelf next to my other favorites. I don't just use it on my ends either. I like it alot... I may go and buy some of the other ones. They have a new one out.. in a bottle and it's like three differnt colors.. I've been looking for it but can't find it.. but I'm on the look out though.
