Edges, Hair Growth, Relaxers

I am in the process of growing my edges out (and its taking forever but there is progress) and I really need to soften the hair out. Its looking very course and I am wondering if it is a good idea to relax the edges and leave the relaxer in for about five minutes? I use the kids relaxer too. I don't use the ones for aduts. I really have to lay these edges down some kind of way and non alcohol gel just isnt cutting it. Any ideas anyone?

From what I've read here in you want to grow out your damaged sides or edges. you can relax them every other relaxer or relax them last and leave the relaxer in like you said for 5 mins.

Just leave the hairline for last. Also maybe using a headband when you wash your hair so that some of the drying facial soaps don't dry out your delicate edges.
