Dying hair

I would really like to dye my hair, but I am relaxed and I don't want double processed hair. I don't know if my hair can take it. So, I was wondering if I could dye my hair now and transition to have either a texturizer or natural hair? (I would like long healthy hair) Also, I like straight hair so I would press occasionally.

What do you guys think is the best way to go? Also, do any of you guys know a good hairstylist in New York and/or Maryland that would not mind working with texturized or natural hair? I would need help transitioning.

Thanx in advance. :)

I have highlights in my hair (natural) and fortunately have not suffered any damage. I also DO NOt put heat in my hair aside from the occasional roller set. However, if you are presently relaxed, I'm not so sure it's a good idea.

Also, dying your hair now, and then transitioning presents 2 issues:

1. The hair you are transitioning from will still be on your head during the transitioning process and if it's damaged won't look so hot.
2. I would just transition first, and then dye my head.

This is how I would approach it. Good luck! :)

I guess in theory it can be done but it would take ALOT of work. I would do one thing at a time, if you are relaxed then do not get a permanent color (you can get semi/demipermanent or temporary colors or rinses). I think that you should transition first (either to natural or texturized) and then get your color (you can now get your permanent color with texturized hair because the bonds of the hair are not completely broken down). That is the way I would go. 1. Transition 2. color. And don't forget NEVER color your hair prior to your relaxer or texturizer!

I know of a lady (I haven't gone to her yet) who works with texturized hair in NYC, PM me if you want her info.:)

I have relaxed hair with a semi-permanent color. Luckily for me, I have a great stylist who took the utmost care to make sure that she didn't overprocess it. She even stood by the whole time while "it took". This was my first color in 8 years (last time it was a permanent color). I didn't have any damage back then either and I was relaxed too. But that's just me. I think I have pretty resiliant hair that can put up with all the chemicals with no damage to show for it.

Sazzy, why not try a rinse? I would suggest transitioning first and then doing some color.

OT: Tthreat08, you are so pretty! Love the hair!

Technically I have colored and relaxed hair eventhough I am transitioning but the difference is that I use a permanent hair color that is henna-no peroxide or ammonia. I've been using Bigen for about 4 years now and I will never switch to a hair color with chemicals...namely because I prefer dark hair and I have no desire to lighten (which I know would require chemicals). A long time ago I used Dark 'N Lovely Permanent Hair Color in Midnight Blue...never again! The color was awesome but the dryness was horrible!! I said no more chemical hair color!!

I'm text and colored my hair red two months ago. I use a perm color and it eventually dried my hair out. I just dyed it jet black yesterday, and from now on I will use a rinse. Try a rinise first, and see if you like it.

I'm bleached, no other chemical process but I do (did) flat iron. I bleach about 3-4 times in one day to get to the color I want, which probably equivocates to dye and a perm/relaxer/texturizer (aren't they all the same? I'm not sure). The thing is your hair has to be in the BOMB condition b4 you tear it down, and then be prepared for it to bale out for a while. I wouldn't recommend it. One or the other....
But I guess it also depends upon what color you're looking for.
Best to consult with a COLOR SPECIALIST, not just a beautician. They'll know the best and worst case scenarios, be able to eval your hair condition and tell you where to go from there....
Good luck
