:look: I have no idea how to dust but the concept is very appealing. My hair is missing something and I think it's in the dusting. How do I do it? Only cut 1/8 inch? All around or just splits? Should I cut in vertical rows or horizontal rows? Any advice is tremendously appreciated. :look:

Glad U asked. I benefitted a lot from dusting. Yes you cut about 1/8 of an inch everywhere. I only did it because I had really bad breakage and split ends from a poorly applied relaxer. The dusting kept me from making a drastic cut. Now that my split ends and breakage are gone I still dust but just not as often. Before I dusted like every two weeks. As for horizontal or vertical dusting I don't know about that. The best thing I can tell you is that if you have layers dust all layers. If you have all one length dust the lenght. My hair actually broke off into layers. It looks nice but I like the look of one length! HOpe this helps and good luck with dusting.

PS If you have someone else using scissors in your head be sure to explain the concept of dusting to them. :D

Thanks Taij. I am excited to get started today! Your advice is very helpful. I am very wary of stylists and, since I've been getting some length and improvement since joining LHCF, I wouldn't let a stylist get near my hair with scissors if she paid ME. :look:

i need a real trim myself, and im scurred of stylists!!! but i usually dust my ends when its in twists...but i do trim off a bit more than 1/8 inch....

This may sound crazy but this is how I do my search and destroy mission for dusting. At night, I turn off the light in my room and turn the computer monitor on. I hold a section of my hair up to the light of the monitor and trim the split ends that I see, always cutting perpendicular to the hair shaft. HTH.

LOL, that does sound crazy but it also sounds like a good method.

I'm scurred to dust/trim myself because I have layers. I don't know HOW to cut layers so I don't want to mess them up. I'm gonna try it one of these days though.

What I do is section my hair into 4 sections and use hair claps 2 on each side. Then I take one section down and cut no more than 1/4 an inch off and reclamp back up. After I have completed my entire head and brush my hair down with a part in the middle and use an extra mirror to check for evenness all round.HTH
