I'm still kinda new and I've read so much about them and I wanted to know what is it and what is a dominican blowout?
Thanks ladies!

There aren't any dumb questions here, ESPECIALLY when you are new. :)

It is a salon made up of women from the Dominican Republic. They are known to be big on hair care. A great deal of them have very similar hair textures as ours(Afro-African/Black-Americans), i.e. Sammy Sosa. They have great products that smell wonderful and leave the hair shiny, soft, silky and help with overall health of hair. A visit to the Dominicans is not like your average visit to a black salon. The one I went to in downtown Atlanta didn't even use towels! She just squeezed my hair on to a floor mat.

A blowout is their way of doing a rollerset. They set your hair on rollers and sit you under the dryer. When dry they take out the rollers and use a very hot blow dryer and blow your roots straight(SUPER straight!) using a Denman brush and then they use a round brush to blow the rest of your hair. While blowing they spin the round brush(curling the hair) creating a soft, beautiful head of hair full of body. They even blow your roots after a touch up!

Blowouts also help maintain your newgrowth while stretching.

The heat was too much for me :( so I'll not be doing that again....the overall experience was pleasant enough....that's just my opinion.

Onepraying, which salon did you go to? I am looking to try one. How long have you been going?

I only went one time and that was enough for me. I saw pics and read reviews so I had to try it.

However, the heat was just way too much for me. I went to a place on Auburn St. back in August, 2004, called Mary Jane's the stylist I had was Angela. She was very nice, but I got a blister in my head! :( I didn't like the way my hair turned out. There was no curl or body to it. Not like the pics I've seen. Everyone who saw me afterwards kept saying, "What did she do? Just blow dry your hair out?" Angela was very pleasant and the overall experience was okay.

There are other places in Norcross and some others in the southern part of town. Here is a link from the Salon Review Forum:

i love dominican salons, when you come out your hair feel so good and lite and full of body, most of the girls that come in there have very long hair so im always hating ...lol. I don't go anymore since i change my perm and it thinned out my hair, ive been wearing braids, there's alot of them in New York City, i usually go to the ones in brooklyn, the all have spanish names...The one i use to go to is Lopez in brooklyn and Amor in harlem, then there's Meringue and Marabels. The only thing is that they stay pack so you usually have a long wait.
