dry roots

its killing me. granted its only been feeling like this for three days but still...
so i have been co washing and wet buning for about three weeks and i decided to flat iron my hair. so i deep conditioned with silicon mix and after that i put my sebastian potion 9 in my hair and blowdried. after that i added CHI SI to my dry hair and flat ironed. my roots feel so dry. i am 10 months post but my roots have always been soft. so i waited two days and washed and deep conditioned with mizani moisturfuse:lick:(now my new favorite deep conditioner) and my hair was sooooooo soft afterwards. so i flat iron this time only using CHI SI and no leave ins and my hair is still feeling more than a little rough.
my strands are very fine and getting relaxers for so many years left my hair thin but i am happy to say my hair has thickened up A LOT. but what do i do about this dryness?
do you think its the flat iron?
could it be the CHI SI?
could it be protein overload from the silicon mix?

i never had this problem before:sad::blush:

that was all i used. for the blow dry and flat iron. after that i used my kerecare hairdress and sealed with organic coconut oil. it usually works great but i dont know what happened this time.

This happens to me as well when I try to flat iron when I have lots of NG. Perhaps the iron was too hot and dried out your roots? Another culprit could be the Potion 9, b/c of the extra protein.

Also, do you make sure you put leave-in on your NG/transitioning natural hair (not sure of the PC term for "new growth" that you don't intend to relax, b/c you're transitioning, lol)? Sometimes, I don't show my roots too much love when putting on my leave-in con, but when I do, they feel and dry softer.

you could be right about the potion 9. because i only used it like three or 4 times and each time i used it my hair felt funny but was still soft. this time im guessing that combined with the silicon mix could have done it.

Here, here. Sebastian Potion 9 tends to be very, very drying. That could be the culprit! I really love Silicon Mix, so you're on the right track. Add some EVOO to the Silicon Mix. It works for me. My hair hates protein so be careful with that. You might be sensitive to the protein.
