Next time you ask a question like this... it is LIGHTS OUT!!!!!:lachen::lachen:

^^^ like she said, hence the name; conditioner wash, or co-wash for short. CW for even shorter

LMAO!!
And some feels it helps their hair retain moisture. I love co-washes but it's not for everyone. Shampoo is something I rarely buy.

Thanks girls...

Please tell me an example of what u would normally do for a co-wash. do u do it wet? dry? what do u do after u co-wash?

Thanks for helping the ignorant! lol:grin:

Put condish in (wet or dry, I prefer dry)
Let it sit in hair or don't let it sit in hair (up to you)
Massage (as you would with shampoo)
Rinse out
Style

I just did it last night. ADDED BENEFIT: cowashing is very relaxing.

I like to CW it helps my hair feel so moist and soft. It minimizes tangles and my hair feels stronger too.

I'll squirt a whole bunch of Suave Coconut Condish in my hair (as much as I want) and make sure it is all good and coated.

Then I might put EVOO on top of that ( I love how EVOO and condish help my hair feel so slippy).

Then I'll leave it in for some hours or maybe not. I'll massage it through my hair and then rinse it out.

After that I put on a leave-in. I'm using a glycerin/aloe vera/water mix. Or anything else is fine.

Then style! Some rollerset or whatever you want, I put a scarf on my roots to lay them flat and let my hair airdry overnight (I use aloe vera gel for gel on my edges), then I twist it and pin it up with bobby clips in the morning and I go!

You're welcome! For a long time on the boards I didn't know what CWing was either. I don't think I started doing it til some months ago. It took me a while to catch on to prepooing too.

I bet your hair would look gorgeous if you CWed then did a twist out. Your hair would be so soft and shiny, it would look great!

I will be doing more twistouts this summer, especially since I just got a good ole fashioned blunt trim.

I'll apply cond to dry hair as a prepoo or precond, whatever. I then get in the shower and rinse, then apply more conditioner to the scalp only and proceed to massage my scalp as I would w/shampoo then rinse and apply my leave in and oil sealant. Other times, I'll just get in the shower, wet hair and use the conditioner like shampoo. It really depends on my mood, but I find that less is definitely more.

Wow! thanks! that was great advice.. i have never done this before! im sooo excited to see how it will come out!

can u over condition your hair??

How often do you all do co-washes and how often do u do regular shampooing?

I cowash twice per week. I shampoo with a shikakai bar once per week. I have not used regular shampoo in about 6 months now. I think I used it once during that time, mixed with some baking soda to get rid of some curl wax I used. But that's all. So far, so good with the cowashes!

Yes, it's called 'over-moisturizing' usually. Your hair will get really 'soft' and 'mushy' and limp feeling. Usually either reducing the rate of your cowashes, or sticking in a protien treatment will fix that.

I've done nothing but cowashes for over a year, now. I use cone-free products, and when my hair starts to feel a little 'buildup', I'll mix a little baking soda in with the conditioner to clarify.

I have the shikakai bar.. i will try it!! with the cowashes. i was on the AAA challenge so i have all of those powders and oils. i still use some of it but not all. my tub gets sooo oily and dirty from the powder mix. but i did i like AAA process when i was doing it.

I will try the shikakai bar and cowash now. i know my hair will love it. it loves conditioner.

Thanks!!!

I slather conditioner on my hair, clip it up, wash my body, rinse the conditioner out, that's it.

It's good stuff!

Thanks!!
and how often do u do co-washed compared to regulad shampooing?

My hair is some kind of wet about 3 or 4 days out of the week, I just make sure one of those days I'm using shampoo. I also chelate when I feel like I need it.

Okay back to the ignorant mode... what is chelate?

thanks!! :)

chelating is similar to clarifying, but more extensive. It cleanses your hair and scalp from the inside out while clarifying acts over the hair surface to remove product build up/mineral deposits and stuff.

It's shampoo so I'll lather and rinse then follow w/a moisturizing poo and condition as usual. There are a few different chelating poos.
