A friend who goes to one all the time just told me that they basically do texlax to the hair. Your hair get about 70% straight then they blow dry. Is this true? Are they good at texturizing or texlaxing the hair?

It just depends on the stylist, they all have their own way of doing it. The salon that I go to does a piss poor job of applying relaxers from what I have seen. Just visit a few, maybe get a blowout and really watch how they do their relaxers, hth!

I went to a Dominican Stylist for the first time last week and I got a relaxer. My hair is still bone straight. She did a really good job. As a matter of fact, my hair turned out better with her than it did with the lady that has been doing my hair for the past year and she's been in the game for 15 years.

Most Dominican stylists relax hair bone straight from what I have seen. I did go to a salon that had mostly dominican stylists in it, but the lady who did my hair was Jamaican, and I asked her to texlax my touch up and she did a wonderful job.

It really depends on the stylist and what you tell them to do, and how much you speak up when they are doing something that you don't want them to.

I think it depends. In my personal experience that has not been the case.. dominicans love "straight" hair and WILL leave that relaxer in your hair 30 minutes if you dont say otherwise. I NEVER let them blow out my hair, i just think the intense heat of the blowdryer on top of a fresh relaxer could do lots of damage... I haven't been in over a year so maybe they're changing their approach, but i doubt it.

It may also depend on your friends hair texture. I have a friend with soft 3c hair and they leave it in for maybe 15 mins and use a texturizer, but her hair looks very straight after its blown out. she never does her hair on her own and always gets its blown out too.

I think they work according to your hair texture. If your hair requires more to get it silky/straight, they will do that. If it requires less, they will do less. Im always happy with how mine comes out. I go to a salon in downtown Brooklyn.

I think that it's true. I've been wondering this myself for the past few weeks. Now that I think about it, I let the Dom Salon relax my hair for the first time almost a month ago for easter. And when I washed it, it dried wavy almost curly. I had 5 1/2 months of new growth and that hair has a definite curl pattern while the rest of my relaxed hair has a loose wave to it. It doesn't shrink up as much as it did before though. It also feels softer. They relaxed with Mizani (I've been using Mizani on my hair for the past year). When I left the salon my hair was bone straight. Mind you, I just had them roller set it and brush it into a wrap. I didn't get it blown out that day because it was just too many people in there trying to get their hair done for easter. I can honestly say that I like the texlaxed look better than the straight relaxing i'm used to. It helps my hair blend better with my wavy and curly weaves. I'm going to continue to go to them for relaxers maybe 2-3 times a year.
