Dominican Salons....article in Washington Post

Yes, thanks for that Comike! I'm contemplating going to a Dominican salon around my way. It's definitely interesting what they said about the fact that there are so few Dominicans around this way (I live in Baltimore and there aren't that many around here) yet so many salons.

Hop over to Columbia or SilverSprings...30 min away. They're plenty there. HTH

Hi, newbie here. This is an interesting article It's similar to the one someone posted back in june about the dominican blowouts and how it relates to their culture, but this article is not as negative as that one was. I've seen both sides to the cultural issue in the Dominican Rep. I've met some as dark as me and swear that they are not black, but that their "skin is just dark"... and I've met some who we would consider "high yellow" but they are proud of their african heritage and will tell you in a minute that they are "negro" my son is half dominican and his dad's family lives in Spain and they consider them selves black. They don't where their hair natural though, they do relax bone straight and rollerset.:) I've been dying to try one of those blowouts, maybe when I go back to visit, someone can hook me up

This is an interesting article. I do agree that the majority of the women that leave the salon have shiny, bouncy hair when it's all over with.

I've had several blow outs and realize they are not for me. My hair is always dull and limp once finished. My hair can't take the heat:perplexed.
