Does your hair get to a point you just need professional assistance?

Well ladies I think I am there. I am a relaxed head with thick, shoulder length, colored hair in layers. I have repetitive stress in my arms/hands so sometimes when I do my hair, my hands get numb or I drop whatever I have in my hands to do my hair. Also, the longer/thicker it gets it seems so much harder and takes much more time for me to do the pre-poos, shampoos, condition, the relaxers, etc. I think I am going to have my hair professionally done for at least the color and relaxer services. Otherwise I am going to chop chop my progress and go back to rocking a short style. Anyone else feel they need to get professional assistance?

So, why do you want to cut it if you are going to get the professional assistance as needed? Do u just want it short?

Yes, I definitely do. I always get a professional to my relaxer, but now that it's longer, it does take a little more work. I'm still giving my roller-set/styling skills a chance to grow. If I don't perfect my routine (washing, detangling, deep conditioning), I'm going to start doing bi-weekly visits again.

You are right that the longer your hair grows the more time it takes to do. However, I am willing to take that time knowing that my hair is healthy instead of going to a salon for the convenience....which is what it amounts to. I have been where you are...plain tired of the work but i remind myself of the results:yep:

Yes, that's when I need a touch-up...I go to a professional for that. Everything else (I don't color), I can do. Just keep practicing. My arms used to go numb too, but now I can roller set fairly quickly (30 min).

For me, the right balance of professional assistance along with my own care is the best. Professionals sometimes get a bad rep on LHCF but *the right* professional is trained well enough to assist you with achieving your goals. You can take good care of your own hair all day, but a great professional will give you that fine tuning needed for maintaining awesome looking hair.

Just like getting a pedicure: sure, you can give yourself pedicures and have great results. But once in a while, ain't nothing like someone else rubbing your feet for you & reaching those overlooked areas while you just sit back, relax and come out looking even sharper and feeling refreshed.

I finally realized that I could not flat-iron my hair well (as a natural or as a texturized head) so I went to a professional and I was very pleased. If you are really good at doing your relaxers and color and aren't having any problems, I would keep doing those things and get help with the other things, rollersets, weekly styling etc. It is easier for someone to mess up a relaxer or color than a rollerset imo. If you are experiencing that numbness in your arms and hands you really need to get yourself some help. I hope you find someone you like AND trust.

my arms used to get tired cornrowing it but its gotten used to it now. But I need help still doing rollersets and strawsets they always come out looking like booty

no i dont feel that way. i go to a professional to get my relaxers but i really dont care if i ever get another relaxer or not. i really dont. i pre poo, wash and deep condition my hair myself and i love it. i only have to run my FHI over my hair once to get it straight and it swings and shines with no problem. i also dont mind the amount of time it takes me to do my hair.

Yup:yep:

I feel your pain and did just that last week after 4 years of staying out of a salon. I still plan to self relax (I'm texlaxed and don't wanna risk anyone taking me bone straight), but I have gotten to the point where I can't effectively rollerset or straighten my hair on my own. Aside from the fact that I can never get that salon look at home. I saw a professional and I swear that's the best my hair has looked in years.

Y'all making me scared :look:

My hair is already a handful... I hope that I'll be able to manage it when it gets longer. I don't trust anyone else to treat my hair as gently as I do.
