crispy if you use too much setting lotion? I swear my stylist uses a lot but my hair is always soft, when I do it, my hair comes out crispy!
What am I doing wrong????

My stylist doesn't use setting lotion on my hair (neither do I). However, a lot of stylists dilute setting lotion with water to avoid the crispy hair. Maybe you could try diluting your setting lotion with water.

I agree with Allandra about them diluting it. Also, are you and your stylist using the same setting lotion?

I use Paul Mitchell's Sculpting Lotion which I dilute out 1part lotion/4 parts water. And my hair comes out soft with no frizzies. But in general you will have to dilute all lotions out.

I also was going to ask if you and your stylist are using the same setting lotion. If not, it could be that yours contains a drying alcohol while your stylist's does not.

I encountered the opposite situation once when I used to roller set my hair. I usually did it at home using either a liquid leave-in conditioner or setting lotion. I was very conscious of staying away from products with drying alcohols, so my hair always came out soft, silky and shiny with no stiffness and was easy to comb.

Then one day I went to a salon where an older lady wet set my hair. It came out hard and crispy, she could hardly comb it and my hair was snagging and sounded like it was breaking! I was so shocked and scared! I asked her why my hair was so hard and she told me, "Setting lotion always makes hair crispy. There's no way to do a roller set without crispy hair."

I wish I could remember what I used back then so that I could tell you. Since your stylist uses a good product, if you haven't already asked what kind of setting lotion he/she uses, be sure to do so. You can even call up and ask so that you don't have to wait until your next appointment to find out.

I use the Keracare setting lotion the same as my stylist, I've never put water it in I don't think it says to on the bottle; and I'm not for sure if my stylist does-----I'll have to ask her.

the lotions I've used in the past are very specific about diluting them The first time around I didn't pay attention and I sure learned my lesson quick! Those were some solid hard curls!!

When I use Lottabody setting lotion, I dilute it with water. However, when I use Pantene Relaxed and Natural Conditioning Wrap/Setting lotion, I don't dilute it and my hair comes out soft, not crispy at all. In fact, this is my new favorite setting lotion.

I too also use lotta body. I like it very much, and I think my hair comes out pretty good. Example are in my photo album!

When I rollerset, I used Lottabody, and I can't emphasize enough that you must dilute it. I usually do at least 4 parts water to 1 part lotion.
