i think the internet has influenced black hair care big time. none of us would be here if not for it. if the internet wasn't invented a lot of us wouldn't know how to care for our hair. before i discovered hair boards i read hair books (that i searched for online ). all i can say is thank god for this brilliant invention!

Amen sister!

I agree. I had read hair books and magazine, but was still confused. But when I became active on hair boards, everything in the books started to make sense since people named actual products and how to use them.

Yes, I appreciate the Internet also, very much. It brought the whole world together. We ladies at LHCF can share our hair tips, hair products, hair pics and regimens with each other world-wide, instantly!

bump!!!

I think the 'net is one of the greatest technological advances of our time.

Who'd think I, in NY, could talk to people around the world about perms and conditioners?!?!

Its awesome

Your right the internet really made a dramatic difference in my hair care practices. At the rate I was going before the internet I would have been bald by now.

07-04-2006, 02:10 AM You are extremely elite women. Only 45 percent of the US population has access to a computer with internet. Out of that, only 12 percent are of African descent. Out of that less than 1 percent go online to search for black hair care tips. Out of that... 11,000 (15,000 now) are here, reading this board, learning tips, getting advice, becoming proactive about not only hair, but decisions on how and where to spend the beauty expense.

I think the internet is awesome to get hair care tips, but like I said above-- only a small amount of women have access to this information. Spread it!

I definitely agree! The internet, if used as a tool, can have dramatic affects on information dissipation. Today, I was examining my hair and I really started to see how the methods I've learned here on LHCF are making a difference in my hair. It's amazing how powerful knowledge sharing can be! Thanks ladies!

That is so true!!!

All I have to say is that the internet carries loads of information, and I'm so thankful that it gave way to hairboards, especially LHCF. Without learning proper haircare from this site, I'd probably be curling my hair with curling irons everyday, wrapping in the same direction every night, using petroleum/mineral oil based products, and on my 10th permanent dye job by now.

i agree

also with message boards you can ask additional questions and people's reviews can help you make choices as well.

This site is fabulous! I have learned so many things. Not just hair care. I learned about skin care, relationships, bettering myself, gossip, et cetera.

Without the internet:

I would still have dry, overprocessed, barely SL hair.

I would still be reliant on a stylist instead of being a successful self-relaxer.

I wouldn't believe black women with my hair type could grow long hair.

I would think that the only way to go natural is to cut all your relaxed hair off at one time and have a twa.

I would still shop for my hair products in the "ethnic section". Now most of my products come from the health food store or the "white folks" section.

I wouldn't take hair vitamins.

In this instance I can say the innannet has been bery bery good to ME!!!

It has had a profound affect on the whole haircare industry because of black hair care being on the internet.

I definitely believe that sites and forums like Long Hair Care Forum influence hair companies that make products for Afro-textured hair.

With more and more black women going natural many companies that did not even consider us as part of their demographic are probably now wanting to tap into the "going natural" market.

This thread is old, but I agree! :)

Before the internet, I used to collect articles on hair care in a binder.

This board has done amazing things for my hair. Without it, I would probably still be struggling to get my hair back to shoulder length, after a bad hair cut. Thanks to the knowledge I gained here - I have the longest, healthiest hair I've ever had in my whole life.

But more than that- LHCF has shown me how much of a resource that boards can be in general.

When I was pregnant with DS#2 and wanted to breast feed- i joined a board for that.
I am trying to relocate- joined a board for that.
Just got a cat- going to join a pet owners board.

The Internet is such a vehicle for learning. If you don't know how to do something- it's on you. The resources are here. You just need to take advantage of them.
