Does my hair need to breathe?

I had someone suggest to keep my hair from drying out that I wrap it at night add any moisturizer put on a plastic like moisturizing cap and then a scarf. The theory of course it that moisture stays in and your hair doesn't dry out from the scarf - silk or otherwise.

So I'm just wondering is this to long to keep my hair under plastic every day? Does my hair need to breathe?

I have never done this but isn't this the same concept of baggying?

THIS SEEMS LIKE THE BAGGY METHOD TO ME..IT WORKED WONDERS ON MY HAIR WHILE RELAXED AS FAR AS MOISTURE AND RETAINING LENGTH GOES.

Hmmm I heard reference to the baggy method but never really knew what it was. I thought that was just putting a bag on the ends rather than the whole head - not that there's a difference. SO I'm guessing this is okay then?
