Does glyserine change the color of your hair?

I have been using it for about three months now and my hair seems browner. Either my hair is naturally this color or the glyserine is making my brown highlights stand out more. Has anyone noticed this or am I trippin?

THIS MIGHT BE THE KEY TO MY NOTICEABLE HAIR COLOR CHANGE!!! ive noticed my hair is browner, when it started growing in black was when in braids, now its looking brown again! very interesting! keep me posted!

thats the same way my hair is. its grows in dark brown but now all of a sudden it is light brown and its not even summer. i dont mind the change in color i was just curious if anyone else had experienced this.

I think so because I used to use Framesi Replenishing Shampoo which is supposed to to protect color treated hair and the bottle said something like "The Biogenol Color Care System contains no glycerine, or any other ingredient that may cause haircolor to strip." HTH....

WHAT? maybe ill stop using it. if its stripping color, is its harmful to hair? I mix glycerin with water and rosemary oil in my spray bottle.

im also thinking raw shea butter lightens hair. there's some strands of hair lying in my shea container, and they've grown brown over time.

Wow! This could be the key! My roots are black, but the rest of my hair is a dark or medium brown and in some spots it's a medium red! It's so weird! Maybe it's the s curl. I too want to know if glycerine of shea butter could be harmful if it is indeed stripping color?

Are any of you using vinegar rinses? There are natural products that will change the hair color. We all know about henna to darken. Vinegar, is a natural bleaching agent.

Are any of you relaxed? The neutralizing shampoos contain peroxide. So, if you get your touchups often, you're getting peroxide, i.e., bleach, every time you relax.

I guess often is a relative term. I don't relax often either (maybe 4 times a year in the past, sometimes less, but I'm 19 weeks post-touchup now stretching to 26), but my hair is jet black with the new growth and over time, it gets lighter, browner because every time neutralizing shampoo is used, more peroxide is being put on the hair. Over time, the lightening will become more noticeable.

Also, check out the ingredients of your other products. Some of the alphahydroxy acids (glycolic, lactic and fruit acids) are commonly used in chemical peels which are often times done because people have dark spots that they want to go away. HTH

As far as damaging, I don't know . . .

I did some research on glycerine and found this out. Natural glycerine which comes from plants does not strip hair color whereas synthetic glycerin does. Synthetic glycerin is derived from petroleum products, i.e., propylene alcohol (do you see that in your shampoo - it's just as bad as the SLS's) may dehydrate your skin and scalp and is irritating. So to answer your question, it may be that the glycerine in the S-curl is synthetic as opposed to plant based in which case, it is stripping your hair of color and is damaging it in the process by robbing your hair of moisture.

Wow, thank you GMMP. I love my scurl though. I dont know if we can ever part. I will do more hot oil treatments and spritzing w/ water. Thank you for the info.
